Indeed.

The logic in the email posted by Boomer is reminiscent of Hitler's rationales for invading Poland and other countries during WWII. O no, it isn't OU and ATM who are thowing the smaller schools into the fire, the bigger schools are merely acting to protect everyone's interests. Blame the small school that wants to assert its rights instead. Good grief!!

Dammit! Almost made it to 10,000 posts before Godwin's law took effect.

Boomer I've always appreciated your contribution to this site, and time will tell if your sources are correct in how this plays out. The problem I have with what you have presented is that you seem to gloss over the predicament that some of Big Xii schools are facing if this conference disbands.

As to your theory about the Big XII disbanding and a new conference being established. I find several aspects of that plan as very implausible. Why would the remaining schools give the others a free out? Why would they give up their status as a BCS conference? Why would any Big XII school agree to that plan without knowing the impact on TV revenue?

It may sound good on paper, but I find it hard to believe that enough of the remaining Big XII schools would risk the unknown of a potentially significant financial impact for the sake of stability.

If OU and OSU want out I think it is far more plausible they will have to pay their way out and the Big XII may very well still survive under its current name with new members. After OU, OSU and A&M pay their penalty we can then make all the changes that you suggest would be part of a new conference. This whole plan sounds more like an OU fantasy from where I sit.

Good luck trying to get out for free. Personally I would love to see OU and OSU stay, and I still hope that is the outcome.

Good post. Also agree with cyphillis, the name-calling is rather pathetic.

And every insider who has made a prediction that starts with "By XXX day, this will happen" has been completely fos.

Wherever I go, there I am.

So sorry. No less true.

In my defense, I am not trying to simplify and "win" an argument by portraying the "other side" as a bunch of Nazis. Merely observing
how silly it is for a "super power", under the circumstances, to blame the small schools for what is unfolding. If the Big 12 is destroyed it
will be due to the "aggression" of the strong. The Nazi reference is over the top, but fun.

This gets my vote
.

With TCU joining the Big East next year they would be up to 9 football and 17 basketball teams. With a BIG-12/Big East merger what they could do is add 7 more
teams with both football and basketball bringing it to 16 football and 24 basketball.
Use above model for football and split into two twelve team divisions for basketball.
For basketball call one division the Big East the other the Big 12. Petition the NCAA to have both divisions keep the automatic qualifier for both divisions since it wouldn't change the number of automatic bids for the NCAA b-ball tourney.
Then one other kicker, you could play both the Big 12 and Big East basketball conference tourneys at Madison Square Garden. Play Big 12 1st round games on Monday,Big East 1st round on Tuesday,Big 12 quarterfinals on Wednesday,Big East quarterfinals on Thursday,Big 12 semifinals on Friday afternoon,Big East semifinals on Friday night with the two championship games on Saturday,Big 12 first then Big East.
This looks and sounds crazy but if other people can fling poo against the wall to see if it sticks, why can't I.

4195 is a guy with one post to his name, and 4216 uses the old logo..... Plus just look up at 4151 and you will see the same graphic with UNLV and Hawaii instead of ISU and Mizzou. I have no reason to believe there is anything to this.

WVU AD Oliver Luck has already tossed around the idea of a Big 12 - Big East merger. Would make perfect sense if TAMU/OU/OSU left. Add TCU to the "West" division and you have two divisions of eight. Could also do a pod system:

Texas
Baylor
TCU
Texas Tech

Mizzou
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State

Cincinnati
Louisville
West Virginia
South Florida

Pittsburgh
Connecticut
Rutgers
Syracuse

How about a conference that shares Tiers 1 and 2 equally and allows Tier 3 to do whatever. UT could keep LHN and other groups of schools (or all 15 of them) could band together for their own network(s) also.
I like this idea a lot and it also seems plausible. Also, this would be a much stronger conference with many of the Big 12 teams still in tact and we would keep playing many of the traditional Big 12 teams every year. Also what CyFan61 said in bold would likely make this a more stable conference that the original Big 12.

I still don't see why the Pac 12 teams like Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah would add Oklahoma schools. I think the Pac 12 is using Oklahoma in trying to get Texas the one they actually want. Oklahoma doesn't add much outside of being a minor league football team. The schools, the state, the population are all pretty unappetizing.

I still don't see why any of the SEC would want to add A&M. It is all not rational.
