Kansas
Kansas State
Mizzou
Iowa State
Louisville
Cincy

South Division

Memphis
TCU
Baylor
SMU
South Florida
Central Florida

I include Memphis because of this
FedEx CEO could provide millions if BCS-affiliated league takes Memphis - CBSSports.com

PLUS
$125 Million in exit penalties to be spread around

PLUS
The schools would be on an even level with one another (no bullies like Texas and OU)

PLUS
All of these schools recruit Texas and Florida anyway

PLUS
You maintain rivalries and it makes sense (somewhat) geographically

I like it, but the problem is that it doesn't really stack up to the major conferences.

Move Loiuisville to the South and add BYU in the North. Add Houston and dump Memphis, SMU or UCF

These would be the ideal teams taking into account that UConn goes to ACC with Rutgers and WVU goes to SEC.
MU
KU
KSU
ISU
BU
TCU
Houston
USF
Louisville
Cincy
BYU
Air Force

And add Navy and Army for Football Only.
Not quite sure how to divide them without maybe 3 pods...

On the bright side, if we do the merger with the leftover Big East teams, we can look back at these days and say, "It was the best of times, it was the bleast of times."

We'll always have that.

Actually...I'd leave it at 10 teams:

ISU
Kansas
KSU
Mizzou
Cincy
BYU
Baylor
Louisville
TCU
South Florida

IF you want 12 I'd probably add Houston and AFA....but I like the 10 above. All schools are in a BCS league (TCU was accepted in one) or should be (BYU). Adding no non-AQ schools. There is no argument that could lock this conference out of the big boy table IMO.

Maybe right away, sure. But if the winner of the conference knocks of a big boy when the conf starts, could add some legitimate press and thats when they have to knock off some OOC teams. But yeah, we would be rated 5th every year in conf power on the football front.

Right now, it doesn't stack up.

But take a look at the direction these programs are going. Baylor, SMU, UCF, Cincy, and USF were all terrible programs 5 years ago.

-Baylor is one of the more exciting teams in the Big 12 and has improved immensely
-SMU has resurrected its program and could win 9-10 games this year
-Cincy struggled the past two years but played in a BCS game in 2009
-USF didn't have a football program 15 years ago and are playing in bowl games and consistently winning 7-10 games
-UCF has played in bowl games recently and sent a lot of players to the NFL. Plus they have only been a 1-A program for 10 years.

TCU won the Rose Bowl last year

The only team that probably doesn't fit is Memphis but given their success in basketball and the fact that it is a decent market in that area along with the 10 million bucks FEDex would pony up, I think they could fit.

I would argue that it would be a very strong conference especially when recruits see some of those programs being a part of a major conference.

The Register is starting to write and link expansion articles at their home page:

The Des Moines Register | Des Moines news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Des Moines, Iowa | DesMoinesRegister.com

One is by Witosky about money and another with Big XII coaches' comments today.

IMO, it would be extremely stupid for anyone there to cheer or wish for non-BCS/AQ league status for ISU, just 30 miles north of Des Moines, privately or otherwise.

I hope the Big XII stays together, with Texas and OU.

But considering the economic impact on Iowa if ISU were member of the Big Ten, this is why I say that. There would be that many more people from out of state traveling back and forth, stopping and possibly staying overnight (or even attending ISU that otherwise would not have). And this would be much more affordable than long road trips and plane flights and easier on student-athletes.

I've seen too many Hawk fans take delight in alternative scenarios not to point that out.

(And I know, I don't believe the worst case outcome likely, such as the Register has suggested in the past.)

Oklahoma St regents schedule special meeting Wednesday to “consider matters relating to athletic conference membership.â€￾ #big12 -dmz

Great...just keep drawing it out.

OU likes the attention and getting stroked off by the media.

Look how the Pitt and Cuse thing went down. Rumors surfaced on Saturday and it was a done deal by Sunday. None of this ******** that we have had to go through with OU liking the Big 12, then not liking the Big 12 and so forth.
