Correct and OU read that the "high profile recruits" meant the one's UT was after. Essentially if you were being recruited by UT then ESPN would get you plastered all over TV on the LHN every time you did something good on the field. No recruiting advantage there. No I need a pirate? Hell, no.
Reports that they have a deal with SEC. Seem to have been leaked from Columbia. SEC denied it.
I still don't see why 4 super conferences are needed. They could do the same thing, without lawsuits, right now.
8 team playoff, they already have 4 bowls as more important than others. 5, 6 or 7 auto bids and 3, 2 or 1 at large bids. The at large bids give potential access to everyone.
All the 4x16 structure does is exclude teams and make bowls even more irrelevant than they are now. So only 4 teams out of 123 have a post season? Yeah that sounds like a great idea. They should be planning out a gigantic cash cow 16 team playoff, not a stupid 4 team one to replace the stupid two team playoff they have now.

A Tier I deal signed when UT has only one more year on a conference agreement leaves too much uncertainty to be a huge payday.
Conference participation deals should be for 15 years at least.
When does the SEC tell aTm that they gave them a month to get out cleanly, but that's looking unlikely. Thanks, but no thanks.
I still hope they get the crap sued out of them. You can just sign a contact and decide you don't want to fulfill those terms a year later.
A&M is still gone. The only reason it feels like the heat on them leaving has died down is because of this whole ridiculous Oklahoma sidebar. Now that the dust appears to be settling on that, I think we'll see everyone's attention re-focused on resolving the A&M situation. That needs to be completely finished one way or the other before they start tackling conference rules and revenue sharing to try and re-solidify things, and I think the quickest way is to just let the Aggies leave.
So can someone tell me if we are completely out of the woods yet? Are there any scenarios left out there that leave us out of an AQ conference?
Do you truly believe the Big 12 will ever be truly stabilized?
I heard a lot of the same last summer after the new TV deal, then look what happened a year later. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice....
I have to believe the TAMU administration learned their lesson. They clearly stated yesterday that they have no intentions of being in the Big 12 next season and I clearly believe they'll be SEC bound in 2012.
Quite clearly, this conference is NOT viable in the long term. Hell, Oklahoma is talking about getting a deal done that will stabilize the conference for FIVE years. Five. That's their major aspirations for the conference - stabilize it for five years. Not 20, not 30, FIVE.
As long as UT is in this conference, there won't be any stabilizing. OU wants to stabilize the conference, but the problem is, they've now lost all of their leverage to do that. They can't play the "We're going to the PAC" card anymore. In other words, I don't see UT making ANY concessions because they no longer have to - UT can dictate terms as long as OU can't threaten to leave.
We are pretty much out of the woods (but who knows until things are put in writing). Even if the Big 12 would have blown up (OU/Texas/OSU/Tech to the Pac), it was highly likely the Big 12 leftovers and the Big East would have merged and maintained their AQ status. So it appears no matter what happens, ISU will be in a BCS league. We can thank the ACC for that.
Is it currently stable? NO. Can it be with the appropriate changes? YES.
The 5 years is to remind ESPN that all their ******** this year of dragging the Big 12 down on their network better payoff when our Tier 1 contract (with ESPN) is negotiated for the 2016 season....which is exactly 5 years from now. Calculated posturing kept the conference together and it CAN bring it back to stability.
