The team we expected

It's like the Cyclone team I had in my mind preseason finally showed up tonight. I think Matt playing at a high level nearly every game wasn't in my preseason thoughts, but I definitely thought McKay would give us close to this kind of energy nearly every game. Hopefully he's back for good.

I have no idea what happened with Hallice, but glad to see him contribute tonight. We pulled away when Niang sat and that's encouraging.

What has been so concerning is that a team full of juniors and seniors had these apparent internal problems. I expected some difficulties with a new coach, but thought the seniors could make it a smooth transition. It's almost March.

Not sure how much internal there was because things always can turn negative when adversity hits. With a short roster, Naz's injury, and tough losses, the doubt creeps in. CSP and CFH are different coaches in several ways is my guess. Hopefully CSP can be successful, too. And to top it off, as a player, knowing you have to stay out of foul trouble must be a crappy way to have to play a basketball game, imo. I know everybody wishes we didn't have 7 conference losses right now, especially knowing 3 are in overtime, but isn't it hard to believe that OU has just one less loss (6)? And up until now, they've been considered a 1 seed.

Look it was a fun game. But with that said let's not get ahead of ourselves. It was one full half that they put together. Its something that I really hope they can build upon but I'm still in the cautiously optimistic side

It was just one game, or one fantastic half if you must, but you have to be excited about the real Jameel emerging, running the floor, dunking, blocking shots and making hustle plays, and Hallice playing 24 minutes, and good ones at that.

Coach Prohm seems to have those guys back on board with his plan, and the other 5 guys are ones we have been able to count on all year.

If we can play seven without much drop off, and steal a few minutes with Ashton when necessary, a lot of the things that dogged us this year are surmountable.

There's not a team out there we can't beat, but in the tournament, you need everyone ready to go as there are no do overs.

It may have been just one half...but this is CSP 2.0...all part of master plan. Only handful of games left...players now realizing this. Eye is on last prize..NCAA.

And it was at home... against Kansas State. The circle jerk is a little too optimistic right now. Smiling is good. Calling it the end of our troubles is going too far in my opinion.

Really REALLY good to see Halice playing like that. That steal he had was probably the most aggressive defense we have seen from anyone all year. Hope to see more in the future. Proud of the guys.

This is weird because the Cyclone team I had in my mind had a 100% healthy Naz Long playing on it.

The team went on a 13 -0 run with Nader on the bench. He was as bad as you can be last night. Offensively and defensively. In fact it looked like GN got on him once about his bad defense. Hopefully at least the good offensive Nader we had for 3 games shows back up.

It was nice to see other guys step up in the absence of an effective Nader or Burton. Both of those guys were due for an off night. But it didn't matter yesterday.

Agree with all of this. Last night was good because it showed us the team that we hoped we'd get in the second half; the team that has a chance to make a Final Four run. And last night wasn't perfect for everyone, anyway (see Nader and Burton, who were due to cool off for a night).

If MT is lights out, Nader is Good Nader, Jameel and Hallice are playing like that, and Burton lets the game come to him and throws it down a few times, then we will win (because Georges will be Georges and Monte will be Monte).

Just like KenPom now shows, and like we saw last night, Iowa State has the best offense in college basketball. And that means that if you are on, you can be in any game.

20+ wins, beat more top rated teams than ever have, sitting right around 3rd best record in conference as predicted by league coaches... Not a bad year by any stretch of the imagination except if you had unreasonable poorly formed expectations.

According to this fanbase, every win is a game/season/legacy maker and every loss means CSP has lost the team.

Iowa State is 6th in a 10-team league right now... so I think some people will be disappointed with that. And I am one of them. But I recognize that an Elite Eight run will make it all better and would be my only memory of the season years from now. (Edit: Other than beating a #1 team and the great Iowa comeback.)

Boy will YOU feel silly when in 10 years we point to this one of many, many turning points this season and you still think it was a different one... Silly I tell you.

Why? Because I'm enjoying the win without declaring there team to be the best in the land? I'm sorry that my smile isn't wide enough for you today.

I'm always baffled that our fans can't put together defensive struggles and foul trouble.

The atrociously inconsistent way @WVU was officiated basically made it impossible for us to play good defense. I'm not excusing all defensive efforts, because sometimes it's just bad. Other times we just have to live with some less than stellar defense if key guys get 3 or 4 fouls relatively early. Cooke contributing will help a little but we still only have 10 fouls on the inside unless you count Burton and then 15, compared to most team's 25-30.
