This is who we have signed the last 4 years for recruits according to rivals. If this doesn't show you why getting transfers is a GOOD thing, I don't know what ever will.

2008

Dominique Buckley - Transferred after 2 years
Wes Eikemeir - Transferred after 1 year
Justin Hamilton - Transferred after 2 years
Clinton Mann - Transferred after 1 year
L.A Pomlee - Transferred after 2 years
Jamie Vanderbeeken - Solid addition

2009

Chris Colvin - Transferred after 1 year
Laron Dendy - Transferred after 1 year
Marquis Gilstrap - Eligibility gone after 1 year
Antwon Oliver - Transferred after 1 year

2010

Calvin Godfrey - Kicked off the team after 1 year
Demarcus Phillips - Transferred after a couple games
Jordan Railey - 2 arrests so far
Eric McKnight - Transferred after 1 year
Melvin Ejim - One year in and has been solid

2011

Elgin Cook - Never made in on campus
Anthony Odunsi - Backed out of LOI
Tavon Sledge - Still coming!
Tyrus McGee - Still coming!

So out of the 19 guys we have had commit that were not transfers, only 6 still have a chance of actually making it their entire careers in Ames.

I actually wrote about this today....(shameless self promotion) "Attrition Condition"

Went a little further back, but you're right, it's especially bad since 2006.

2006 was a disaster as well. 2007 had luck with Brackins/DG, the other 4 not so much. The next big man to make it 4 years through Iowa State deserves some sort of medal. Jared Homan is the only one in recent memory.

Worst class in the history of college athletics.

With the 2006 class nipping at it's heels:

Dunson, 1 year
Cory Johnson, 2 years
Wes Johnson, 2 years
Corey McIntosh, 1 year
Mike Taylor, 1 year

Why stop at 2008? It's been a mess for longer than that. For the past half dozen years or so, ISU has made basketball recruiting look more difficult than curing cancer and building a colony on Mars, combined.

At least that class had productive players and 2 NBA talents in the group. JVB was by far the best player in that 2008 class

True in that respect. The retention was equally as poor, though.

How about the Vette? He drove off mid season. Clinton Mann? P-something that transferred to Creighton and was kicked off last year?

Let's face it, anyone that plays more than one year for us is like gold.

I see enough talent in each of those classes to put together the 8 players needed to make a winning squad, however we couldn't keep enough of either of the classes to put anything together.

How about this...

In the classes from 2002-2010 (not counting the transfers that redshirted last season, or the ones that will redshirt this season)....

49 incoming players

33 of them were High School kids....2 played all 4 years in Ames. 3 more left a year early for the NBA.

15 Juco, 7 used all of their eligibility.

(Christopherson is the other to add up to 49)

Only 17 of the 49 total guys have used more than 50% of their potential eligibility.
