I have no idea what's going on with the coaching staff.
But regardless of what happens... I hope everything works out for the best for you guys! I can't speak for anyone but myself... but I've enjoyed watching every Cyclone Basketball game I've been able to see.
I've never seen you guys stop giving your best effort in the games. Whether we're ahead by 20, as we were a lot at the beginning of last season, or we're behind in the final minutes... you guys grit out every moment.
And without that attitude, games like the K-State result can't happen. That was the most exciting game (in any sport) that I've seen in years! Each shot, I felt the heart throbbing or the excitement as if I were in the game with you!
I sincerely hope to see each one of you back next year!
DG: It's been awesome watching you progress in your career to be an assist leader with not many turnovers. Your shot selection has been great! You've been a class act all around!
Boozer: I want to see you back in action and resume where you left off before the injury. You've dealt with pain that not many of us would be able to handle. I want to see you get rewarded for all the hard work you've put in!
JVB: We missed you last season, and I am excited to see your range again next year! With you the opponents always have to pick their poison!
Christopherson: Seriously... you've got some skills! I really wish I coulda seen what you could do in the Big 12 without Mono last year. You get pegged as a shooter (as you're obviously quite good at it)... but I love when you drive the lane with those floaters that you never seem to miss.
Dendy: You're a beast! High flying dunks... blocking shots... the game was always more exciting with you in it. For most people, Craig Brackins leaves big shoes to fill... but for you they're a snug fit. It's your time to shine man!
Oliver: I haven't really seen you play much, but I've only heard glowing remarks about your athleticism and game. I really want to see what you can bring to this team because it sounds like the stuff every team needs!
Palo: Pegged as a walk-on... but I keep hearing that you're one of the best on the team at the PG position... would love to see you prove that to everyone!
Dorr: Didn't get to see much of you... but from what I saw... you've got great hands under the basket for quick post feeds and you've got great agressiveness for a first year player in the Big 12. I liked what I saw!
Recruits:
Phillips: Rave reviews about your all around ability as a guard to score, pass, play defense. I've been looking forward to seeing you in a Cyclone uniform for a long time now... We've had great players on our team... but it just wasn't complete... the piece that you'd bring to this team is one that we've needed to become that complete team!
Ejim: Stud! I've watched all the videos! I used to attend the Capitol City league games and one guy that I was all excited about before we knew much about him was Wesley Johnson and his raw athleticism, combined with a good shot... I haven't had the luxury to see you in person... but what I've seen in the videos, you've brought that same excitement out of me that I had when watching Wes Johnson!
Railey: Dendy and JVB are seniors... and from the sounds of things... you're the guy that gets to fill that void in the future! It sounds like you've got a solid foundation and have the ability to grow into a dominant force in your Big 12 career! Can't wait to see what you got!
Distant Future Recruits:
Staten and Cook - You guys have some serious skills and you know it! We'll keep following you guys next year and look forward to you guys getting to Campus in the future!
ALL: Look at what happened with our Football team... Coach Chizik bailed on his team... but they stuck together and put together a better season after he left with more wins than Chizik was able to do in his two seasons put together.
You guys are the team! Not the coach. And as you all know, our fanbase had mixed feelings about our head coach... but we'll always have full support to our players who have committed to being Cyclones! We come to the games to watch you play.
We're one of the most passionate fanbases in the nation. Yeah, some of us will threaten to not buy tickets due to our coaches performance, in order to get their voices heard... but most likely they'll all go to the games anyway because of their love for Cyclone Basketball.
You guys deserve the best, and I hope that you are all able to get that here at Iowa State next year!
And to those who have already declared they are transferring to another school this year: Colvin, Buck, Ham (yes, I realize you've already committed elsewhere)...
I want to say thank you for being classy about your decisions to transfer. You waited until the season was over, you gave us your all in each and every game... and you'll always be Cyclones in my book, and I wish you the best.
And if the option is still on the table, I strongly encourage you to look at re-committing to our future coach (should Mac be leaving) if that option is presented.
I'll always welcome you back as you guys have been class acts and represented us well. Whether it be owning up to your past actions, or always cheering for your teammates on the court, or gutting out the season when you weren't happy here.
Thanks to all of you and I hope you'll remain part of the Cyclone Family next year! We as fans go to games to watch you play baksetball, not to watch our coach yell from the sidelines!
