What about the claims that Barnett was Herman's guy, but Jantz was Rhoads' guy?

I always appreciate when people come right out and admit that they're idiots.

The heck with you guys who want to blame Rhoads. We haven't had a good offensive line since Seneca's junior year. How is that CPR's fault? Herman sure as heck didn't have one to work with, the quarterbacks were iffy, and the receivers not so good. Can't do a whole lot if you don't have passable talent--as the team is starting to get to having now. Stop taking shots at CPR.

Yeah, Osemele and Hicks were pretty bad....:jimlad:

The 2010 line was Osemele, Alvarez, Lamaak, Burris
The 2011 line was Osemele, Tuftee, Farniok, Hicks, and Burris

For Iowa State standards, that's pretty damn good.

Paul Rhoads has consistently stated that his philosophy is to allow his coordinators to do their jobs. He hires guys that share his philosophy and gives them control.

I don't care about Tom Herman because he isn't currently at ISU, what I do know is we have an equal/possibly better O-coordinator who has succeeded with less talent that what Tom Herman is currently working with. I haven't OSU light it up consistently since he got there. A lot of their offense seems to succeed because of superior talent, it dosent look anything nearly as productive as a Leach TTech offense or an Art Briles offense which both with top end talent looks like well oiled machines.

You could look at it that way or that he went to Ohio State where Urban Meyer is an offensive genius and that is helping him... who knows.

All I know is he was horrible at Iowa State.
HE wasn't horrible at Iowa State - IOWA STATE was horrible when he was here. Slightly different shade...

FWIW, everything I've heard is that the offense Mess was running wasn't his at all. He wanted to run more 2 tight end sets and play power football but Rhoads wanted to spread it out because that's what recruits like to see. Sounds like Rhoads might be letting mangino run the show this year though.

He did play power football against UNI last year. Didn't work out very well I recall. Then again I watched their only good offensive player run all over our defense playing a cover2 shell, so really all the coaches can take some blame for that game.

Rhoads has been pretty hands off the offense his whole time here.

Without having guys who were solid power running backs and without having a line that was good at run blocking power football wasn't going to work.
