I'm trying to figure out if he's not counting the ACC Or Pac-12 as a power conference.

Because in the Rhoads era we have faced the toughest shedule in the country. We are in the middle of snowy nowhere recruiting against teams that have 5-star players living in their back yards. Literally 6 teams (Texas and Oklahoma schools) can spit into the wind and hit a 5-star in the face.
As far as losing to FCS opponents and MAC schools...I got nothing.

ok, sorry, yes duke is a power 5 conference, but sure as hell not a traditional powerhouse in football.

and for all of you that say we have a tough schedule. What about duke playing in the ACC? you want this thing turned arouned, then dont make excuses that we have a tough schedule, NO S***!!!! are we going to keep saying that for the next 50 years???? Either quit complaining that we need a new coach or quit settling for a "tough schedule, its ok"
My point is that if they can be in the top 25, so can we, get some cupcakes for non conference and win the games we are supposed to win in conference and be close with everyone else.

You screwed up on the right hand side there. If you would have turned the long skinny piece on it's side you could have cleared a couple lines.

Cal doesn't really belong on that list. Yes, it's been a while since they had a conference title. But they're much better at football than we are.

I'll see if I can come up with a list of six that aren't.

We play a tough schedule. Lay out a detailed plan as to how to bridge the gap between us and the recruiting hotbeds that many of our opponents benefit from and I will gladly read it. I'm not complaining. Your initial post is complaining. You asked why. I did my best to tell you why.
Did I mention we play a tough schedule. Not just tough...but cumulative toughest in the land. Other than that it is coaching and development. Recruiting will not get easier, nor will our schedule. Not complaining, just stating absolutes. Sorry.

OMG people I am not talking about Cal. In my original post I said only 1 is in a power 5, well make that 2 now.
maybe bad choice of words on my part. 4 of them are not from power conferences and 5 are not football powers.

Someday when it dawns on the powers that be at Iowa State....they will decide we should be good at football. Then they will invoke a mystical and magical person not unlike someone from lord of the rings to wave his staff, and voila it shall be done.

Then I will laugh at the football peasant fans of Duke, and Toledo when they return to their former selves.

Glorious times covered in good fortunes will attach themselves like barnacles to everything that is Iowa State football.

YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS..... I can totally feel good things coming our way soon. Screw you Duke, we're taking over your top 25 spot. Go eat scraps of foul tasting grub with the other vagrants of college football!

Duke has a great Coach. That's saying a lot coming from me. But their fan base is pathetic. It could be interesting if ISU could pull someone away from a school like Duke. The Recruiting footprint in the Carolinas, VA, and GA where they recruit a lot of their kids from is red hot these days. That being said, ISU has a much better fan base, better facilities, and less crowded recruiting market. Its comparing Iowa, ISU, NEB, KU, KSU, MINN all in the immediate area compared to the recruiting footprint Duke is competing against being UNC, NCSU, ECU, UNCC, WAKE all in the same state.

My point being Cutcliffe is another coach that if ISU could open up its check book it could be interesting to see what could be done with a coach that knows how to win with lesser talent.

In Case you were wondering.... Duke's average recruiting ranking is only a few spots ahead of ISU. 58 compared to 66.

Also the ACC schedule is much easier than the Big12. Dukes Schedule so far... and how I think ISU would do against that opponent...

Tulane - ISU Win
NC Central - ISU win
North Western - ISU Close loss... Looking at common opponent Iowa and could be a W
GTECH - ISU Loss
Boston College - ISU Win
Army - ISU Win.

Big 12 is going to be tough to break into and build consistent wins in without some expansion.
