Did anyone else notice the number of traveling calls Saturday? I see more traveling than is ever called except for then. I know Georges had 7 turnovers but don't know how many were traveling but we had 22 turnovers for the game and a bunch were traveling that has not been called in the past. I apologize ahead of time if this was brought up earlier but I did not see anything in the threads.

Re: Traveling calls last week end

I'm guessing one of the refs reviewed Georges moves frame by frame for a couple hours and determined that he was technically traveling. It was ridiculous.

To be fair, he's really quick, and those refs probably need their prescriptions checked.

Odds are that a reminder memo went out to refs. Numerous traveling calls on both teams in the Texas @ KU game Saturday as well.

I went back and watched some of those calls during commercial, TCU's included. The conclusion I came to is I guess I have no idea what travelling is.

Same here. To make it worse, I feel like I see 5 traveling violations a game that DON'T get called. I'd say it's a possibility that the refs are inconsistent on their calls but that would be outrageous.

They seemed to call most "iffy" feet shuffles, but missed the blatent euro-step - which is 3 steps... which is 1 more than you are allowed.

I thought the travel on Georges' Nowitzki step back shot was a good call. He kind of stutter stepped - not smooth like he usually does it.

I have no idea what they were looking at when the called the 3 seconds on McKay. He was in the lane for 2 1/2 seconds and on his way out of the lane when they blew the whistle. Considering how often bigs pitch a tent in the lane it was a really, really weak call.

When done correctly, the euro step is not a travel. 90% of the time, it is not done correctly.

Right but he said the euro-step is 3 steps. It's not and it seems like a lot of people think it's some Euro rules thing that had gotten into the American game and it shouldn't be legal which isn't the case.

I didn't see the game live but Georges does get away with a lot of foot movement. So does Matt.

The one that bothers me is when guys catch the ball and hop to set their feet to shoot. I'm pretty sure that's still a travel isn't it? Also, if we aren't going to enforce the boundary line after a made shot, let's not make a half-hearted effort. Let's just say you don't actually have to get out of bounds before throwing it to someone else.

Worse than the Eurostep, which can be done without traveling is the 2 steps then jump stop. It is such a blatant travel that somehow is never called.

Didn't see the UT game over the weekend but I hope Taylor and his switch pivot foot/ up and under got called.

Re: Traveling calls last week end

I'm really glad there are people that want to referee a game in this world, because I'd have to get paid a whole lot of money to put up with it.

Like holding in football, there probably isn't a possession in basketball without the technical definition of a foul.

And yes, I still plan on complaining about a missed call.

It seems like 3 seconds gets called after a guy camps out a few times, a coach complains, the refs get a quick trigger and call it a time or two, then go back to letting guys camp out in the lane.

I felt this same way. I saw a couple in a row against TCU and was talking to my wife about it. How I don't understand what traveling really is now. Multiple times that game I rewound the DVR and watched in slomo and still couldn't figure it out. I guess yeah, technically, the ball hadn't left the hand yet, but they guys were going into a dribbling motion, with one hand, with the ball clearly being pushed toward the floor. It was almost like someone called and said, hey, focus on the traveling today.
