Restarted Season 1 last week. Final episode just finished. **** I forgot how intense that was. I was pulling my hair just like the first time. So. Damn. Good.

I'm curios what others thought of the Season 2 premiere. I thought it was executed well and great character development, but maybe a bit on the depressing side. Not that Season 1 was roses by any means, but the case was so fascinating that the sadness of the detectives lives wasn't so front and center. This just felt a bit too typical mafia esque currently to be that rivetting unless this murder goes somewhere else than just a mafia hit and the gangster story is the sideline story.

Talk about screwed up, a violent alcoholic guy who loves the child of his wife's rapist, but clearly lacks quality parenting skills....And guy who has to take a blue pill for a gf like that, then has serious suicidal adrenaline junky issues.

Be interesting to see where it goes.

I thought it was good. Maybe a few too many characters and storylines to introduce in one episode. Not sold yet on Vauhn for that character...it's pretty serious for him. I think McAdams is going to blow up because of her role. She's just awesome. And still weirdly hot.

I will say that this season has a LOT to live up to. And I don't see any way they can. Last season was maybe the best thing I've ever seen as far as TV series.

I thought the first episode was disjointed. Maybe too much to intro in one episode. I am reserving judgement until the fourth or fifth episode.

Some of the dialogue was bad. Especially Vaughn's.

Shockingly Vaughn has been okay in my eyes. I think the other three can pull off their roles and that was shown in the first episode. It now all hinges on the case and if it can live up to be as engrossing as last seasons, if it can suck you in like the first season, this season will be very good. That said, I don't see how it can be as good as the first season, Woody and McConaughey were just so good I don't know if it can be touched.

End of my completely obvious observations.

Woody and McConaughy reminded me a lot of Sam Jackson and Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Not that the characters were similar, but just that you could sit there and listen to their conversation and hang on every word even if they were talking about stupid **** you'd never care about. True Detective is very Tarantino-like. Non-verbal communication, music plays a big role, and conversations that seem meaningless actually mean a lot. Well that and violence I guess.

I liked it. Not really fair to compare it to last season. New characters, new story. And anytime a line like "I'll come back and butt**** your dad with your mom's headless corpse" is used, it's worth a second look.

There is a lot of truth to that. Think of all the conversations they had while driving that ended up being meaningful. The style is similar to Tarantino, but dirtier. Tarantino stuff while grounded in grit is usually sharp and bold. Everything in True Detective is dirt and grim.

That was one of the best lines I've ever heard on a TV show/movie. I loved it

I'm hopeful that the disjointed start leads to a better finish than Season 1. It's going to be near impossible to beat, though.

I remember thinking after 3 episodes last season "this better go somewhere quickly or I am out" and then bang it was unreal and made the first 3 all make sense. Looks like they are tying to together a little earlier this season, but also looks to be very different type of season. Nonetheless it was a pretty solid first episode and a great way to tie it all up at the end.

It reminded me of a Nick Cave lyric (look up Stagger Lee by Nick Cave -- you'll know which line I'm talking about). And then Nick Cave comes on at the end. Mind blown.

I know a version of Stagger Lee. Delia DeLyon shoots him in the balls. You're right, the Nick Cave version is a little more graphic. Jeez!

Yeah, classic line right off the bat in episode 1.

Agree, I thought the acting, even Vaughn's, was quality, but a lot hinges on whether this case will be as rapturing. Actually thought Vaughn/Farrell in the bar scene with the haunting singer was the best scene. The whole corrupted cop and organized crime is just a bit too normal on the surface, for now .

I thought the scene with Colin Ferrell confronting the bully was awesome. Smart move to beat the dad instead of the kid. Smarter than Peter Griffen anyway.

Any show that begins with Rachel McAdams in her undies showing that thing off wins my heart. I can't wait to see where her character goes.

The rest of the show was good too.

Did they really just kill off Farrell after 2 episodes?

I was just starting to like his character when he deadpanned about his body issues. And then some big *** black bird had to shoot him.
