It's honestly why I so much appreciate what Campbell has built and how we approach NIL. We will drum up some money for guys who have other options. But if you are only wanting to be here for the money, there's probably a better home for you.
I hear this a lot and I get the point but there are some players on the major 3 sports that if they asked for more money we would 1000% make concessions and give them as much as we possibly could.

If selling bulk tickets at a discount that are not used then I guess it is a sellout.
ha agreed, but ultimately they still sold all their "product" they had available for this long regardless of the means at which they were sold, which is not the case everywhere else.

You really think schools like ISU can afford to offer that for athletes across all sports?

Depends. If you figure $30k/year additional expense in stipends across ~200 scholarship athletes, that's $6M/year. A poverty program like ISU reported $110M in income in 2023. Then consider some NIL funding now are donations that likely would've otherwise still happened but went to the AD. You're probably talking about in that case an athletic department figuring out how to manage a new expense of about 5% of revenue. Less if you consider that instead of having a collective out their marketing for new donations, similar resources and efforts would be done by the AD to stay competitive and pay the student athletes.

Since most athletes are probably getting very little in NIL, that would be a win for them.

ISU would be a lot better off in a controlled environment like this instead of trying to compete in a world where schools can drop $4-5M on a QB and OL. Long-term, competitiveness and success drive revenue and donations. So I think it would be tough, but long-term it seems like it would've been worth it for ISU and the non-blueblood programs to try to push some reforms like this through.

Norvell just signed a new contract in February. His buyout is $65 million. He isn’t going anywhere in the near future unless Florida State gets some Texas A&M oil money.

Hey you never know, I dont know if they have big donors. But ya thats a big buyout.

Buy puts can be negotiated, they don’t have to be all at once, so yeah he could very well be gone depending on how the season goes. I believe they have been losing recruits as well and obv this will have a massive impact on portal players

1. $110M is revenue not net income.

2. $30k, hahahahaha, you think ISU is going to get a good player for $30k salary.

3. What about walkons are they still slaves or are they paid employees too?

4. Health insurance will be a major expense too.

5. Since they are now state of Iowa employees don't forget IPERs (retirement plan).

In UNLV's 3 wins this season, he's completing 44% of his passes for an average of 106 yrds per game. I'm thinking the school where that level of performance would be an upgrade is Iowa. :)

Are we just forgetting they finished 13-0 last year and would have made the playoff if his qb wouldn’t have broken his leg? The season before that they were 10-3.

20-3 in the last 2 years.

Yeah, not a great start this year but it’s not like he is stacking up losing seasons.

I get it, but the reality is we can't outbid the big hitters. If Rocco's only motivation was money I have no doubt he'd be playing elsewhere. There's just a reality to our money situation. But luckily CMC has struck a great balance of getting money to players while also building a culture that makes them want to stay.

Not to mention that effort happened in 2014. No way should we have seriously constrained resources at a time we desperately needed them.

South end zone, the Campbell era, Cytown, and more would all be gone. Just to take a principled stand on an idea that wouldn’t become a reality for 10 more years

Not disputing that we would get outbid by the majority of our peers but some act like CMC and Otz would just show a player the door if they came and asked for more because of “culture” and that’s “not the type of player we want”.

They would do anything they could to keep them. In the end if we got outbid we got outbid.

Before those two seasons he had a 3 win and a 5 win season so yeah he is stacking them up. The only reason they were good last year is he struck gold multipule times in the transfer portal. You can’t build a program that has regular success from the portal and it’s clear he can’t develop talent.

Also in his 10 win season 2 years ago no ya single win came against a ranked team. So yeah his seat is insanely hot

Also when a player is having success and has NFL potential they typically don’t leave unless the program they are in is in free fall or in a much lower tier.

Jimbo and Willie Taggert ran that program into the ground, not many coaches would come in and win right away. Which he didn’t. Then he brings in quick talent, in your words, he struck gold multiple times in the transfer portal and went 20-3 but that’s not the right way to have regular success so what do you want him to do? Keep losing?

Regarding seasons and wins against ranked teams. You could say that about any 5-10 coaches at any time. Hell, Matt Rhule has beaten like 2 ranked teams his entire collegiate coaching career.

Unless they go like 1-11. Or he gets caught being a perv. His seat is not insanely hot.

I doubt FSU will follow the McCaffery plan. If he sucks he will be gone. Jimbo also won a Natty.
