Very nice game plan from Herman

Herman has caught plenty of heat this year in the down games, so I wanted to tip my hat to him for this game.

Herman clearly watched a LOT of K-State film against TTech and saw how KSU mixed up zone reads with ISOs and Counters to heep TTech back on their heels. The ISOs and counters were new to our scheme this year, so it's clear that Herman had a nice plan. We had not seen much of that and I thought TTech looked lost much of the time.

I was also really great to see some of our second unit doing things effectively, particularly the OL. Gannon played a lot at LG and Lichtenberg was rotating in with Bykowski at LT and did well overall.

We had our way with the Ttech front seven and they really had answer and looked confused often. Herman called a great game and we executed pretty well. It was a classic hangover game for them, and they were sleepwalking and never woke up.

Cheer to Herman and the offense

Herman did come in with an excellent gameplan.

Also, with Jared knowing the read option already it helped that much more. I like the new look.

Let's go get Kansas now.

He did a a very nice job of run first and throw second and that was Tech's weakness. I thought our quarterback did an excellent job of playing smart.

Our defense deserves a lot of credit too. Tech got the ball a lot, but we stopped them a lot.

Having the O-line play solid all game outside of a handful of plays was the best surprise of the night, even more than Herman's gameplan.

That counter is a missing piece of our offense. Extremely effective.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the counter. Great seal by the TE on that play and we ran it great yesterday. I would like to see the YPC on that play. It had to be near 10 yards.

Absolutely. Hopefully this win will convince him that you can still win games in this league focusing on a strong rushing attack. Even more impressive was the way some of young guys that we've had to work in upfront played last night. Let's be objective, they were really struggling 3-4 weeks ago and last night you could see the growth and improvement. Great sign for the future. My only beef with Herman has been that I don't think he plays to our strengths enough. He did last night and we see the results.

I only remember it being run twice but both times were around 10 yards. White and Duck are so small Tech was having problems even seeing them in the backfield.

its nice when we don't turn the ball over 3 times in the first quarter. JB seems to be doing a much better job with that.

If you can point the finger at Herman for anything, it's that he didn't take advantage of our depth at running back sooner. It's hard to be mad now that it seems like he's found a successful formula. Bravo, sir!

The difference is that we finally had a game plan that played to the strength of the OL: agressive run blocking. This is what happens when you let guys like Hicks and KO attack rather than pass protect. This is why the Oline seemed much better. The frustrating part is that, if not for Herman's arrogance, this might have been possible much earlier.

Having the O-line play solid all game outside of a handful of plays was the best surprise of the night, even more than Herman's gameplan.

I wonder if Rhoads was in his ear last week demanding something different.

The OL has had plays this year where they have run blocked very well. Barnett is much better at making the right play on the zone read than Steele was. Of course Barnett has had a lot more practice with it than Steele also.

It helps a lot that TT has a horrible rush defense, but it just seems the offense is more fluid with Barnett. Less penalties, less turnovers, less 3rd and longs.

The pessimist would say that last night was the result of playing a team rated #105 against the run. I personally would say Tom Herman flat out took advantage of a glaring weakness by running against them instead of being stubborn in his offense.

Well, I'm not going to say that Kansas' rush defense is categorically better than TTech but it might be. That rush defense we saw last night from the Red Raiders was just flat out terrible.

I hope we continue to play with a sense of urgency like we did last night - we came out fired up and just kept our foot on the gas. We need that for all remaining games.

Cheers
