Anyone else think Wally was the best hire CPR made?

He gets more from less than any coordinator i've seen. Granted the hok offense is really bad but he defense shut them down today. Over his time here the D has kept us in games whereas the O has dragged behind. The D under him has looked more prepared in games than i've seen under previous regimes.

Thoughts?

Wally's worth his weight in gold. I hope he coaches us for a few more years.

We'll only get him for a few more years before he moves to a higher school to coach DC or even become a HC. When the hawks fire KF, he better not take that job. Because I know they'll come calling.

UNI has already made a strong case according to my sources. It's a great opportunity, but I hope he doesn't bolt. If they can pay him 50% of his current salary I heard he's gone. :(

One big reason we got him is because he wanted the opportunity to coach with his son.

I agree with almost everything, except for the more with less, in reference to this year's team anyway. We've got a lot of talent on this defense.

Best defense I have seen in years but, why don't we put pressure on the QB?

Wally has been great for this program. Defense keeps improving game after game, year by year. Klein and Knott has really blossomed under his direction.

I hope Wally stays until he retires, whenever he wants to do that. Our D is just flat out good. If NIU was the second best defense EIU was going to see all year, what did that make us, the best they'll see all decade?

I would be very, very surprised if Wally didn't retire from ISU. I just hope that he sticks around for a few more years and doesn't leave this year when Knott and Klein graduate.

Wally's hire is probably the best single coaching decision that Rhoads has made.

Wally has stated a few times (especially when he was hired) that he sees Iowa State being his last stop on the coaching journey. He's always wanted to be able to coach with his son and Iowa State gave him that opportunity.

It's not like he's a young 30 year old coach saying he'll never leave. He's coached a lot of places and had success. He's got a good thing going for him here, on the field and off the field with two of his grandkids living down the street.
