Campbell is allowed a bad loss. No one is calling for his head. But he's had several losses like this in his tenure that make you wonder how good we could be if we didn't leave so many points on the field or had disciplined special teams.

Again, if he's that bad he should be replaced. Who are we getting? Put your money where your mouth is.

And just so you know, when he leaves he isn't being replaced by anyone who costs any money. He'll be replaced by someone on his staff. That person, whether it is Manning or Nate or Viedt, will hire whoever Campbell doesn't take with him to Nebraska or wherever he goes for the next staff.

Campbell should leave with fans like you. We lost a game. We played poorly. Missed 3 very makable field goals. Hit the upright twice. I have been a Cyclone for decades. Even in the best of times, wear your Cyclone nut cup. We have never had more success under any coach than we have had with Matt Campbell. Disappointed. But know that I will support Campbell through this. You act like a change should be made. Grow up.

This post above sums up exactly where we are right now. Nobody is thrilled with how this team is playing with all the constant mistakes, etc. The coaching really does leave a lot to be desired.

BUT.... the entire question is...... is this just the best we can do, and the best we can expect at ISU? Maybe it is. Matt has brought us further than anyone ever has... maybe that's as good as it gets? Maybe that's the ceiling for us?

We are 3-2. If we finish 6-6, would you consider that a failure in a “rebuild” year for this program?

I guess it depends on how those wins come about but yesterday was in a long line of ISU waffling in the moment.

Literally no one is saying he is that bad or should be replaced. Pointing out some things that continue to bite us and thinking there could maybe be a change up in those areas to try and take the program to higher heights is not asking for Campbell to be replaced. The Campbell era has been awesome and I want him to stay forever but I would also like to see some changes in a couple areas. Both things can be true!

OMG I'm so so sorry for critiquing Lord Emperor Campbell, who is clearly the best coach in football and completely infallible.

If I have any feedback for someone, than they should be fired is your logic. I'm sure you don't think this way with your job and boss.

To add to this. Saying we are going back to the basement is pretty stupid. We are in a rebuild year and the league is strong. Tough combo

Being in a rebuilding year is expected and fine. We're young, some talent is there, we expect to grow. What I think everyone's problem has been is that we are seeing the exact same mistakes year in and year out. That's what needs to be fixed. Special teams issues have literally been posted every year for 6 or 7 years. Offensive line has been an issue forever too.

We finally got a decent kicker from the portal last year. Why didn't they learn from that and attempt to get another one this year?

Kansas State is a good team but that well-oiled machine lost to Tulane two weeks ago. And after that game the fans were calling for a change an offensive coordinator.

Ummmm..... Tulane is a good football team. 4-1, with wins over KSU and Houston.

KU is obviously a good football team too... but we looked like the better team.... yet lost again. That's an issue with CMC teams a lot it seems.

Interesting nobody can name a 2nd one though. Maybe because we've plateaud hard and nobody wants to see that
Out of curiosity who would you have considered a good win last year?

The bolded part above is true, but in the case of CMC.... it's just a lame excuse because we make all these same mistakes whether we're loaded with veterans or full of young guys. So it's clearly the coaching.

Nobody is calling for him to get replaced. Get you emotions in check.

If he is as bad as CoKane claims in this thread, then he should be replaced.

Two things can be true here:

1. There are things Matt needs to change and get right because it’s time

HOWEVER

2. A bunch of you are starting to act and sound like Nebraska fans when they got rid of guys consistently winning 9 games a year.

We have a garbage history and as painful as these close losses are, and yes Matt better figure this out ASAP because it’s tiring to watch, the alternative is to go back to getting our doors blown off multiple times a year in conference and praying we can get 6 wins. You think we strike lightning with a coach again who has CLEARLY lifted the floor and increased the ceiling? I wouldn’t bet on that based on our illustrious history.
I tend to agree with you here, but I have said for probably 3 or 4 seasons that CMC needs to learn from his mistakes and make improvements to his "process" (ie his huge set of binders with the magic formula). "Sharpen the saw" as they say in 7 Habits.

And he absolutely has NOT done that, at all.

Based on that, I now think he is what he is. So just get comfortable with special teams that lose games, and no overall offensive strategy.

Not only is this not the best ISU can do, it's not even the best THIS TEAM can do. They continue to lose games because of bad special teams and "margins" type bonehead mistakes.

That doesn't mean 9-10 wins every year, but it does mean not giving games away, making the same mistakes over and over.
