Olde Main is a great microbrewery/dining. Highly recommend you hit there. I'm a big fan of their wheat beer if you want to try a local brew.

Hickory Park after the game...Yes you will wait. However the seating capacity is enormous, so an hour and a half is the longest before you get a table most the time. I haven't gone after a game for years though.

Great Plains Pizza would be a good place for a meal as well. ISU much like I imagine WVU based on the pictures I have seen has a beautiful campus especially in the fall.

Couldn't agree more. Their pizza is unique and extremely good. Don't let the honey fool you....it's a must try.

Dress warm and check out Hilton/Campus while you are in town.

If you dress warm you will have a great tailgate day. Never under estimate the November winds in Ames. They get brutal. You will probably want to bring a thermose and hot chocolate.

Am I the only one who has never been that impressed with Olde Maine's food?

No, I think Olde Main's food is pretty average, I like some of their brews though. I would actually flip his sentence around and say that Hickory park is good (especially for the price) and olde main is pretty average.

Even more so in the upper deck, it always feels 10 degrees colder up there then when around concession stands

Whatever you decide to do WV fan, just leave your QB in Old Virginny will you please!

Hi Cyclone Fans,

My family and I live in St. Louis and have decided that since we have no plans to see family over Thanksgiving that we would come up for the game on the Nov. 23rd. We have already ordered tickets and have a hotel room from Wed night through Sat. morning. This will not only be my 9 year-old son's first WVU game but his first college game ever. Needless to say he is pumped. Now on to a couple questions I was hoping you could help me with:

1)Our hotel is about 2.5 miles from the stadium. Is it better to drive over and find parking or is it possible the hotels have shuttles? Sorry for such a silly question but it has been a long time since I have been to an away game.

2) The most important question. Since we will be in Ames for Thanksgiving, are there any decent restaurants/hotels that may be serving Thanksgiving dinner. If so should we call and get reservations or just show up?

I appreciate your help with this and best of luck this season.

[Hilton] is where we tailgate. You are welcome to join us. We are a family-oriented tailgate party. And you get to watch the marching band warm up.

FYI I don't think that's where the band will be warming up anymore. I think they'll be based more around the Alumni Center.

I really want my son to see the whole tailgaiting experience. He is already picking out his WVU gear to wear. This will include a coonskin hat.

Will this be store bot or the result of one less family pet?:twitcy:

You'll have a great time in Ames. One of the best tailgate experiences anywhere. Looking forward to the new rivalry. Plenty of good advice from Clone fans already so welcome ahead of time and have a great trip.

Yea, looks like the new gameday plan for the band has them practicing and warming up at the indoor facility then doing some pre-game entertainment at the spirit walk and at the alumni center. That really seems like a solid move. Warm-up stuff at Hilton was a fun tradition for the band, but it seemed like nobody outside their parents ever knew there was anything to see out there. Any sort of event you can add to gameday is a good thing.
