100% tough conference. We're recruitng at the level we are largely due to the fact that this is the best basketball conference and it isnt close.

Winning is fun, but winning in a good conference is better than winning in a **** conference.

At the end of the day, even with the NIL issues and all that, we still landed our best class ever. Our 2023 class and 2024 targets arent even options if we play in the American or Mountain West.

If our coaches are as good as we say they are(I think they are) then they'll keep us competitive. If not we'll have more options due to how good the league is
I agree with that in basketball for the most part. However, we would have had two more studs on this year’s team (not including Hunter) had it not been exclusively for NIL. Given our likely scoring issues, those two alone are probably the difference for 5+ more wins this coming season.

In football, we actually have a worse avg player coming in when you take out Kohl. We usually have a few in the Top 600 and this year have none. That with our best ever success. That is without NIL being a factor yet for us in football. Those types of things factor in to our success a lot, even if we’re a developmental program.

Honestly, lots of times I envy Iowa for basically having an automatic 8-win schedule every year. I know this is about basketball but that’s about where I’m at. However in basketball it does seem strength of schedule is a huge player for tourney seeding so I don’t mind the grind, go 19-11 or 18-13 or whatever with the toughest schedule in the nation and still get a 6-8 seed

Depends on the sport. In football I want a ton of easy matchups for more wins.

In basketball I want the tougher conference.

I'd agree in general.

Though you can argue in down years the strength of the conference makes those years really bad.

Whats this about? Basile and Bates?

As for football, I kinda dont worry about that anymore. We gotta get out of our own way first with the offense and special teams. Even with that, last night and most nights of polls show how bad CFB and the CFP is rigged in favor of who the media likes.
