His TO usage is down right reta****. He's uses to to set up defense? Why do most teams set up D after a made basket? Defense is harder to set up on a Miss. I don't get it. Situational, sure, but 75% of his TOs come off our own baskets.

well Texas shot crap from the FT line, so it actually worked out well, otherwise we get smoked on the boards with elf line up on the missed shots from the field.
I feel bad for these seniors. They didn't just suddenly become bad offensive players.
And another loss because Prohm can't recruit a center. And I'm not holding my breath that Ray kasongo is the answer. Young is a serviceable 4, not a post. Simeon...no. And unless Cameron lard packs on 35 pounds...he's not real big.

What can the coach do? Not much more at this point in the year. These seniors are either going to decide to play up to their full potential and run the ball or go out as graduate losers. Simple as that. They already know what to do.
Jesus Christ I cannot believe the amount of people that blame Prohm for the lack of post position players. Laughable.
Who else is to blame? He's been here for two years now. Laughable is bringing in guys like Holden, Bowie, and banking on severe academic risks in Malou and Lard. But yeah not Prohms fault. He's never lost a game here at Iowa State.
He really just needed to bring in 1 serviceable one for this team to be much better. People didn't expect a fleet of top rated power forwards to be brought in.

Suddenly banking on academic risks is a major issue? It seems to be a pretty common trend around college sports. I can't say I know many top-100 players that are also Honors students. Do coaches even get access to kids' grade information?
Prohm's job is to recruit good players. If the kids can't manage to either attend a semi-real school or at least maintain a C-average through high school, that's not Prohm's fault. Just have to have a backup plan of sorts. However, when more than one of your big recruits fail to attend, that's going to be a problem.
It sucks that our grad transfers didn't live up to the hype. They aren't much different than JUCOs to me, it's just a fact that they won't always deliver the performance you expect or need after a change in scenery. Blame Prohm for that if you want, but it doesn't look like there were many better options, either. Looks to me like a bear market more than anything else. Serviceable guards are a dime a dozen, but good, big posts are harder to find.
They were out of time-outs during the last stretch of the game. His timing and use of those time-outs is up for debate. He is constantly conferring with his assistants looking back with a perplexed look on his face with his tongue sticking out half of the time on the baseline.
People rag on Prohm's TO's after made baskets but at times they actually make sense. He's basically using the TO get the guys an extended rest. If you pay attention these TO's are usually close to the next media TO. You may not like them but it's Prohm's attempt to keep his core group of guys on the floor in a tight game when they are showing signs of fatigue.
Why not call a TO when we have the ball right before a media time out? It would accomplish the same thing from a rest standpoint and would allow us to draw up a set play for a good look. Just a thought.
