Suddenly banking on academic risks is a major issue? It seems to be a pretty common trend around college sports. I can't say I know many top-100 players that are also Honors students. Do coaches even get access to kids' grade information?

Prohm's job is to recruit good players. If the kids can't manage to either attend a semi-real school or at least maintain a C-average through high school, that's not Prohm's fault. Just have to have a backup plan of sorts. However, when more than one of your big recruits fail to attend, that's going to be a problem.

It sucks that our grad transfers didn't live up to the hype. They aren't much different than JUCOs to me, it's just a fact that they won't always deliver the performance you expect or need after a change in scenery. Blame Prohm for that if you want, but it doesn't look like there were many better options, either. Looks to me like a bear market more than anything else. Serviceable guards are a dime a dozen, but good, big posts are harder to find.

The vast majority of top 100 kids qualify without any issue. Rare for a top 100 kid to not qualify and Lard was only top 100 in the CF Delusion top 100.

Prohm and everyone knew Lard was the longest of long shots to qualify. Him being here at all is a nice surprise.

Grad transfers are much different than jucos. They've been in a D1 program and you have direct, similar competition to compare and evalauate unlike juco. Any hype for our grad transfers was also generated by the CF delusion gang.

You are right, it's Prohms job to recruit good players and he simply hasn't done that in the front court. He hasn't landed a kid who has played consistent minutes yet. Although Jackson has shown he is a big 12 player and I'm looking forward to him blossoming next year.

Yes, Wiggington is a phenomenal recruit.

Jesus Christ I cannot believe the amount of people that blame Prohm for the lack of post position players. Laughable.

I can't fathom after 2 years who else you blame.

He was able to bring in a juco all American in Jackson.....but can't bring in one serviceable center?

But let's walk down that ridiculous presumption road. Let's give him a miracle pass that he wasn't to blame for 2 years for not getting a center........please list for me our starting center he has acquired for NEXT year. I'll wait.

Lard isn't physically ready, Carter is painfully out of his league, wanna pin your hopes to ray kasongo?

You're a moron if you can't see that Prohm started with his hands basically tied behind his back in terms of recruiting with the timing of Fred's departure.

Who else is to blame? He's been here for two years now. Laughable is bringing in guys like Holden, Bowie, and banking on severe academic risks in Malou and Lard. But yeah not Prohms fault. He's never lost a game here at Iowa State.
Does the saying goes what you say is what you are?

Playing the guy who was suspended last game all those minutes down the stretch was inexplicable. Gave up two easy drives to the hoop
Bowie- 8 pts 5 reb in 19 min
Young- 0 pts 0 reb in 14 min
Holden- 2 pts 2 reb in 8 min

None of them could guard Allen.

Our fans claiming to have watched the game and not understand why Bowie was playing is inexplicable.

Yeah so go with the guy who was suspended last game. He will probably concentrate on getting a stop in final couple minutes, or allow two uncontested takes.

And it isn't like one of them has to play either

With all those timeouts he stores up and not use during a game?

Is he storing them for the winter or do you think he keeps them in like a little shiny time out box?

I only ask because I can't possibly fathom why in God's name when you have four time outs you don't make sure you got the exact right play you want. Having our least elusive player catch the ball running away from the hoop with 2 seconds left doesn't strike me as the best option.

Another loss where we got out-coached. I feel bad for these seniors.

Probably the same reason he doesn't use all 15 players on the bench? They've been working on these plays and these situations and have been in these situations numerous times as these guys are seniors and if they can't execute now after 4 and 5 years then 30 extra seconds won't really let you coach them any more than they have been?

I dunno - never coached basketball, never recruited an athlete, never run a practice or film study, never had my pay check on the line based on the actions of a handful of cloistered man-boy student athletes...

I agree when you need a stop Bowies absolutely not the guy, and maybe going with Burton on Allen more would've worked, but I think doing that for more than spot minutes is a recipe for quick fouls. If there would've been an opportunity at the end for some offense- defense substitution maybe you get Bowie out of there on D. But on offense he was active around the glass picking up some boards and garbage buckets. Holden and Young simply weren't producing.

Young seems to do a good job getting a body on guys, but he doesn't get many rebounds for reasons my untrained eye can't pick up.

I still like Young playing a bulk of the minutes and would like for him to get the ball in his hands more, but if another guy is producing better you've got play him.

Probably watch highlight films of Ejim, Kane, and Niang like most on here...and then talk about how those guys were so much better. And then watch a Bulls game, so they can dream about Fred.
Maybe for a better reference they could watch some 2012-13 games. This season is a bit similar. I don't really remember, was CF as meltdown prone that year? That roster probably had more talent without any glaring holes. Huge advantage at PG this year but with Babb, Clyburn, Tyrus at wings, Niang Ejim and Booker up front a 10 seed seems like it would draw criticism. I think it helped being two years removed from the Tourney drought.

What are you talking about? He had the cushiness entry to a coaching job in the world! He got a ready made team that had success last year and has five seniors THIS year. He barely had to recruit anyone for two years. And he's a recruiter....not a great in game coach,

So again....let's go down that road. Let's give poor coach who was saddled with 2 all Americans his first year, and the unfortunate problem of having 5 seniors this year...one of which is the best pg we may have ever had.....

Explain to me then in YEAR THREE.......how we still don't have a serviceable center or post player on this roster for next year.
