Just saw that Brock Purdy is listed as a senior on the Cyclones.com roster. If last year didn't count against eligibility, shouldn't he be a junior?
What happened to last year not counting against players' years of eligibility?

Pretty sure you can decide if you want to use it. Sounds like Purdy is planning on being done after this year.
Ok. I wonder why he still wouldn't just say he's a junior since there would only be plusses in doing that.
Because you don't know if someone is going to take that extra year until that time actually comes.
What they are doing is calling the extra year some players choose to take as their “super senior” season.

Also saw that Hunter Dekkers and Aidan Bouman are listed as redshirt freshmen which makes even less sense since they are so early in their careers.
Will be interesting to see if any of last season's freshmen end up being redshirt super seniors in 2025.
I hope for Purdy's and ISU's sake that he has an awesome season this fall and that it's a clear choice for him to jump to the NFL. No sense for him to stay one more year and risk getting injured.
Why does that make less sense? They were advanced like everyone else, except they were both eligible to count 2020 as a redshirt year based on number of games played.
You're overthinking it.
I posted that before learning how they were automatically advancing players and that they can have an extra year if they chose to have one.
