What seniors can come back next year?

With the scoring and ball handlers we stand to lose we may be depending on Lipsey playing 40min a game. 5 incoming Freshman, while talented, is a lot to ask once Big12 play starts.
I imagine TJ has a plan with the roster but signing that many doesn't allow for multiple experienced transfers. Maybe 2. I would go a good shooting combo guard and a good defensive 4/5

that's just about the most expensive thing in the portal

Only if they also score and shoot well.

How much do you think Ward coming out of VCU would cost now?

Hopefully we can land a player coming off a year like Ward had in 2022-23, but I’m fearful that we won’t have anything after trying to keep Lipsey, Milan, and Jefferson

Would we rather have Milan, or two players of less hype but that fill multiple needs?

I think a money-ball GM would trade Milan

I'm not that worried about Milan leaving. If he wanted to he would've last year. He's likely going to be THE GUY next year. I got very excited watching him initiate the offense against Houston in that second half.
I expect a couple transfers in but honestly I think we are getting to the point where anyone TJ wants is going to start a bidding war as there is something about this staff that is freakishly good at identifying talent.
Jefferson I am honestly expecting to walk based on the rumors of massive offers he's been getting. At the end of the day, there are essentially 2 TJ recruits playing on this team. Milan and Tamin. The rest are transfers. We need to see if the program is actually developing recruits. Hopefully Nojus, Rock, and some of our incoming freshmen can step up.

It's really a conundrum when you have freshmen you like. You got some guys with potential, but beyond Batemon none that are surefire contributors. Pitino has said he wont even take a 5 star at this point. The game at a high live has changed and it's for grown men, not 18 year olds. Just look at the Big 12, outside of Denim and Edgecombe, who are both lottery guys, there aren't any big-time freshmen contributors. Maybe Thiam out of UCF?

I imagine they'll be trying to recruit over most of these freshmen in the portal. You almost have to. And if the freshmen can come in and prove they belong, then great. But you can't rely on it.

Why do you say that? These are annual decisions and not just about wanting to leave

The market has gone up.

I’m not predicting he leaves, but it’s flawed to conclude he is not leaving after his sophomore season because he returned after his freshman season.

I agree he’ll be the highest usage guy next season, although I’m not sure he’s ready for that.

I've been waiting for you to share what you disagree with in my mostly factual post about JT Rock. There is very little in there that is opinion, mostly just facts about JT. What is it that you disagree with?

Pretty sure Hawley could get a medical RS if he wants.
I think medical redshirt has to be a season-ending injury (along with other criteria). The fact that he is now suiting up, even though not playing, would seem to indicate it's not a season-ending injury.

You’re using his age disadvantage as primarily a bullish indicator

IMO it’s more a bearish in terms of what he’ll do at Iowa St

He’s has three years left. His growth curve to impact at Iowa St will need to be accelerated compared to the average 19 year old that has 4 years left. That’s not good if bigs generally develop slower

The fact he’s been at Iowa St for over a year is more a measure of where he is on his curve than his age being 1 year younger imo

One reason I’m high on Pleta is he’s going to be an old sophomore. He should be better for his class. Get old, stay old.

Not if he cannot score.
Rebound, dunk, protect rim - Hasan Ward part 2
Perfect

Winning with offense is expensive. Particularly scoring at the 5. Great move by TJ to build the foundation with defense.

If we need scoring at the 5, go small ball, or invest in long plays- homegrown high school recruits (Rock?)

I wasn't bearish or bullish on him. I was stating a fact that he is still quite young.

We either need a center who is a super athlete or a center who is lethal from 3...

Noah Feddersen from NDSU would pair greatly next to Jefferson in 2025/26
Have you watched JT Rock in warmups? I think he could be lethal from 3. I have only been to two games in Hilton this year but I arrived very early for both games. Both times I was impressed with JT’s 3 point shooting and range. He made a few from the Pioneer logo. I know it is just warmups and maybe those that have attended more games will contradict me, but I do like his potential.

Edit: I also think he could open up the middle for our guards. It is so congested in there now with our current bigs.

JT was known as a capable 3 point shooter in high school - likely contributing to his 4 star rating.

Anybody see the news today about Chad Baker Mazara's eligibility at Auburn?
Auburn's Bruce Pearl hints at the possible return of Chad Baker-Mazara for 2025-26 season

2020-2021: Duquesne
2021-2022: SDSU
2022-2023: NW Florida Community College
2023-2024: Auburn
2024-2025: Auburn (Covid year)

After all this, Bruce Pearl says he fits the criteria for ANOTHER year. The article says Pearl just plans to play him next year while the case is ongoing and the NCAA can't do anything about it.

I get that CuJo's covid year came from his Juco year, while Baker Mazara's came from his time at Duquesne so they aren't identical, but it's giving me more hope we have a shot.

Next season will be a good indicator or JT’s potential. I hope he develops enough to earn at least 10 minutes a game. Difficult to project at this point.
