The whole college sports interaction between fans and players is creepy enough already without middle aged dbags using social media to bash players.

Says the faceless guy on the message board.

The players have a choice whether or not to be on social media. There are pros and cons. That comment was pretty tame really. If you are concerned about whether Twitter comments "break the camels back" of our players you need to seriously evaluate your priorities and we need to seriously evaluate who we recruit.

While I understand your point to a certain degree, I think it's also very important to keep in mind that just because you have the right to do something (in this case talk ***** to a college athlete through social media) does not mean that it's the right thing to do.

The only social media stuff I do is Facebook, and that's enough for me. I've mentioned how much I hate Twitter on here a few time before; in short, if Twitter was a person, I would punch it in the throat and then while it was down on the ground kick it in head until it bled out. IMO, personal Twitter accounts are just a vehicle to enable a person's narcissism, which is enough of an issue these days without Twitter being around.

It's pretty ridiculous to go directly at a player online as an 'adult'...

It's also pretty ridiculous the pedestal some people put athletes on, like because they put on an ISU jersey, they can do no wrong...They are regular humans just like us. They are just in the spotlight far more than us. They fully understand this.

The reason Jameel has gotten blasted on here so much is because he has repeatedly went online to publicly rip into coaches and the Ames community...shockingly that hasn't went over well.

Calling them out does no good. At best they won't care. At worst, they enjoy making you upset as well. These people are literally sadists. Answers to the problem are:

Stop their access or your own access
Shut the whole thing down
Get over it and deal with it

Sucks, but you aren't going to make these people change.

And if you find the need to call out college kids playing basketball on Twitter, you need to seriously evaluate your entire life.

It makes people who's opinions don't actually matter feel important. However, the main difference between this site and social media like this is we aren't directing it directly at the players usually. I don't condone saying bad things about our players for everyone to see, but there is a difference there.

The thing that annoys me most about this situation is the people that don't realize that McKay is playing hurt. He's not lying when he says he is going at about 85% right now. Tendinitis is a real thing and it's not in his head. Unfortunately he will have it the rest of the season because the only thing that heals it is rest.

A few years ago Chris Lofton had a down senior year for Tennessee and took tons of abuse from the Tennessee fans. After the season was over, it came out he had been battling testicular cancer during the entire season. Point being, fans don't really know these guys or know what they're going through. Even if you feel like you know a guy like Georges well after four season, you really know so little about the actual person.

I'm not saying it's right...it's not.

I'm saying that it's inevitable and anyone who opts to use social media needs to accept it.

Stupid on his part and dumb of McKay to respond to this guy. McKay is worse than a girl with daddy issues when it comes to social media.
I've see Niang, Morris, Hogue, and others respond to stuff like this on instagram and twitter. It's not just McKay. I hate that he gets singled out for this.

When Niang responds to this stuff it's because he's funny and a good trash talker.
When Hogue responded to this stuff it was because he was tough as nails and wouldn't take crap from anybody.
When McKay responds to this stuff it's because he's a diva and he loves the attention from social media.

Definitely lines you shouldn't cross and directly messaging a kid is ridiculous. I fully support shaming them publicly.

I don't have any problem if fans call out a guy for crappy play on a message board, because that's on the player if he's hunting for what folks are saying about them.

Agreed. I hate the mantra that says if you say anything to put a team or a player down you aren't a true fan. There are certainly low quality comments made out there, but calling out a player for low effort or poor performance is a part of the game.

Social media is always going to be cringeworthy because it allows every waterhead with Internet to think people are listening to them.

Yes actually it is very clear that if you have Twitter as a public figure that you have to take negative BS.

Or... follow me here... I dunno... maybe people like that ****** bag could get a life? Its a game in which 18-23 year olds put a ******* orange ball through a cylinder. Get over it.

Reevaluate your life if you think its appropriate to blow that person up on social media. I would have more respect for that clown if he had the sack to walk up and say it to his face. But lets be real he doesn't.

What I think is the most pathetic is it's usually some JA who's never even sniffed playing the level these players are playing at. Right up there with arm chair coaches on here. Dude is probably a towering 5'7" and dreams of one day jumping high enough to touch the net.
