Things I learned today. The MG auto label is alive. However, it's Chinese and they primarily just use the name. FB friend moved to Spain and saw a image posted of the used auto they just bought and damned if the logo didn't look like it was MG. So had to look it up and it's an MG ZS although I don't think they sell the EV model in EU yet. A far cry from my old 1968 MGB.

Isn't that the same when Volvo?

Dogs.
Also if it folds down with cup holders and such it’s kind of cool to fit 3 in the front if you need to.
It’s an option so kind of a cool throw back imo.

I get that with the old pickups. But my dog would prefer a window seat in the back with a quad cab.

My dislike of benches is they just don’t provide the lateral support as a bucket and I feel like I’m sliding around. But, I guess maybe others have a different experience. I wasn’t driving when we had a bench, so maybe the nostalgia is stronger for those that learned to drive with them.

Not really. MG is really only a name at this point for Chinese designed and built cars for the EU market. They don't design or build anything in England. Volvo is now Chinese owned but, much like when it was was Ford owned, they still design and build most Volvo's cars in Sweden. Volvo is and was a company. The Chinese only bought the MG marque, not a company.

I rented a MG HS PHEV at Heathrow back in May. Promptly crashed it 2 hrs later in Oxford.

The pickups I remember riding in didn't have extended cabs with back seats. Bench allowed 3 in the front and if it was a manual it was a little awkward. I don't see a good reason now if you have a second row. In cars, bench seats also allowed you to have the kid sit between two adults. This was before car seats and seat belts. The seat belt was my two parents holding me back with their arms if we had to brake hard.

My fabulous 2023 Ram 1500 classic has "bench seats." They're far from what I would consider a traditional bench seat. Its basically two bucket seats with the divider able to fold up and act like a middle seat. The driver's seat is completely separate, the passenger seat is connected to the middle section but is contoured like a bucket.

No one knows it has bench seats unless you fold up the middle.

Our Sienna has the same in the middle row. But this one looked like an old fashioned bench rather than connected buckets. That’s what I don’t understand from what I presume will be a $70,000+ pickup.

If you really want to know why people might select this option

I’m guessing they’re just showing off the flat front floor though for marketing images mainly.

Yeah after seeing those pictures I am now firmly in the WTF crowd on those.

What's your review on the Sienna?

So do you just turn that into your insurance like you would do in the U.S.?
Pretty much. We used insurance from a travel credit card for the rental (National/Enterprise). We were on the hook for $2k initially when returning the replacement vehicle to Heathrow. The claim took a bit of time, but ultimately didn't cost us anything and our actual auto insurance is none the wiser. But pro tip: avoid driving a new car in a new place with zero sleep.
