Ay, seeing as how the dorms don't come pre-furnished(as far as food utilities) and there wont be enough room in the car to bring up to Ames. Any rental service or a place to these appliances cheap up in these neck of the woods?

There will be more people selling crap like this than you can imagine. However, if you want new stuff, WalMart will have a ridiculous amount of them. Additionally, want to check with your roommate and see...

On another note, where are you living?

I have a mini fridge I might sell you cheap if you are coming through Des Moines any time soon. It's just wasting away in my basement right now but still works and was new in 98.

If you're a freshman, you're bound to get something in the mail about the option to rent a loft and / or a mini-fridge / microwave unit that will be delivered to a pickup location near your dorm during move in, but I'm not 100% sure that company still operates on campus or what the deal is anymore

They should make a mini-fridge and microwave all in one ...

just saying... I would buy it. Instant burrito storage and making machine - even better if there was a little elevator inside that brought the burrito up to the microwave so you didn't have to do the heavy lifting .

They did last year I know...they were a pain in the *** during move-in and the number of parents expressed displeasure with them during move-in was absolutely ridiculous. (having been move-in crew at MWL)

I'm not sure if the site is running anymore but wasn't there a cheggpost.com or something where you could buy and sell stuff on? Was run by ISU students for awhile. Craigslist is not a bad place either. Found one right here: GE Dorm Fridge

I think it is safe to say I handle the heat(its been 100+ all week down here). But sleeping in the heat is something I could do without.

Dry heat 100 or air is as humid as a swimming pool 100?

I did that freshman year with the loft. Biggest ripoff ever. They are sized to fit the longest mattress, and I certainly didn't get that. Definitely dictates how you arrange your room.

My last semester (went 4.5 years) I stayed out in towers and the room had the fridge/microwave combo. That was nice, but I think if you had to pay for it, it would be better to buy your own fridge/microwave. You might want to check before you do that, because some dorm floors have a microwave in the common kitchen area.

This is going back like 15 years, but at that time I believe Linden-Merrill had a microwave in the kitchen.

Yeah I did it freshman year too... it was alright but for the cost of renting it, I may as well have bought a wooden one from the get go (stayed in Friley for another 2 years)

I had the 80" matresses though, so I didn't have that same issue ;-)

I forget what renting the Fridge/Microwave combo runs, I didn't go with that one. I bought my own mini-fridge and microwave, which cost me all of like $160 total, if that

Mini-fridges still run about $100-$120, and microwaves $40 and up. Renting costs like $80-90 year atleast

EDIT: I Think the biggest advantage to the fridge/microwave combo was it came with a true freezer, but it's so small it's hardly worth it. Pretty sure my brother rented one his freshman year at Iowa and didn't the next year

That's hilarious. What do I get in the mail today? A letter from Inter-Residence Hall Association about MicroFridge and loft rentals. What timing.

I also have a mini fridge and microwave I'd sell you. FWIW the fridge is a taller model so holds more than the standard cube size fridge.
