Sophomore at ISU. I was walking by the library and a maintenance worker asked me if I had heard what happened.

Was supposed to start an internship in Chicago on 9/12. Woke up to my aunt calling me asking if I'd heard anything about the event in NYC. Only one plane had hit at that point so lots of confusion but we were on the phone together when the second plane hit.

Sophmore year or high school. Hadn't heard anything about it until they made an announcement during homeroom (which we have between 2nd and 3rd period for some reason). Was walking past the computer lab to my 3rd period class and watched the second tower fall live. Surreal day.

Craziest thing was that somehow my dad didn't fully know or understand what happened until he got home that night, despite working a regular office job.

I was a senior in high school and actually home sick with food poisoning. Flipped on the TV as the second plane hit. Thought I was watching some movie that I hadn't seen before.

Freshman at Urbandale High School. Near the end of Pre-Algebra first period (when principal announced it over the PA between 8:25am and 8:35am), then went to CAD class around 8:46am.

Sitting in 7th grade social studies when we found out. Watched TV all day at school. It’s one of the first times I remember seeing a male teacher cry.

Freshman year at ISU in the basement of Art & Design building in a three hour studio. 8-11am. Remember going to the bathroom and passing two faculty in the hall discussing something in hushed tones.

Went up to the atrium to grab a bite after class was over, a bunch of people were huddled around a tv. I nestled in and saw smoke, but nothing distinguishable. Asked, "what country is this?" Got the reply, "that's the pentagon."

Junior in undergrad. On my way to get help with some physics homework. Listening to the radio and trying to figure out what the heck was going on.

I was in high school and just got to chemistry class. Our teacher said we could head down to the library to watch coverage.

I remember driving to my girlfriend's volleyball match that night and seeing cars lining the streets trying to get gas.

Senior at Iowa State. Just got out of the shower and started to hear something had happened and turned on the TV not long before the 2nd tower got hit. Didn't go to any classes that day, sat and watched the news coverage all day. Asked guys on my floor if they went to class and those that did said either the professor told them to go home and watch the coverage or they turned on the TV in the classroom and no one really said that any class they attempted to go to actually held a lecture that day.

At home with oldest daughter(1 at the time)watching "bear and the big blue house". Wife comes in and asks if I saw what happened in New York. Turn the channel and see one building burning and both thought terrible accident. Minutes later the next building gets hit. We look at each other......."no accident".

Freshman at ISU, got up for class, turned the TV on, still don't know why, saw the replay of the first plane hitting. Called my dad, was on the phone with him when the second plane hit and when the first tower went down. Unbelievable that its been 20 years, can remember it like it was yesterday.

The second plane was just crazy. Lots of thoughts going through my head that the first one might have been an accident, then boom, the second plane comes on the screen.

On the 24th floor of a skyscraper (not in NYC). Ton's of fear went throughout the building. Watching the second tower get hit in real time was surreal. Eventually everyone was sent home. I watched the news, then went for run in late afternoon/early evening.

One of my co-workers had a sister in NYC but the sister was ok. In a later consulting engagement, I worked for a person who lost her brother that worked in one of the towers. Also later, I had a boss who was on the phone with folks in NYC as this event was happening. The weren't int the towers, but in NYC.

It was an unbelievable day.

On an upper floor of 801 Grand. Lots of crazy rumors going around about multiple planes hijacked, multiple buildings being targeted, and so on. Lots of people went home but those of us who stayed were either glued to TVs or hovering around the windows most of the day.

I believe I was in 5th grade social studies class. Principal came in and told the teacher and then we watched on the tv in the classroom all day.
