Ranked opponent, better bowl, far surpassing expectations for the season, better weather, cheaper, closer to home. This isn't really a contest.

weather and proximity to one's home is subjective...

All I know is that the weather was downright nasty last time we were there. I would much rather have snow and in the 20s then rain and mid 30s.

It really depends on where you live and your financial position. NYC is probably fun, but it is going to be a lot more costly, and for most people is going to be a more expensive trip. BC is probably a much more winnable game for Iowa considering the location and the quality of the opponent.

Don't really know a lot about the Memphis team right now, but suspect they are pass happy, which should be a good matchup for ISU.

Pinstripe Bowl is a terrible bowl. Football played in a baseball stadium, surrounded by homeless and garbage in NY. Our bowl game is terrible also, we are playing a road game against a non power five team who is really good and is playing in their home stadium. IF you win no one cares, if you lose it is embarrassing.

But one good thing is we are getting 15 extra practices because of bowl and will help the team get ready for next season.

Agreed on the 15 extra practices...that is a great thing for the young uns. I'd expect our lines to make further progress and sets up great for spring.

As for embarrassing, no one, outside of Iowa State, gives a rat's rump if we win or lose. And, knowledgeable Clone fans will know how good Memphis is...basically the #2 non-Power 5 team out there. Bring on the Tigers...

The "extra practice" schtick is sooooo Paul Rhoads. F&^% the extra practices if you can't win and ESPECIALLY if you lay a turd after all those extra practices. Paul would know about that. I like you Paul, btw...you and Dan are always invited to my tailgater.
JUST WIN BABY. I'll tell you who gives a rat's rump too: RECRUITS. They want to see all those glossies and marketing materials with our guys celebrating and holding trophies. I will agree...if we lose, it will be used against us BIG TIME in recruiting.....but winning is very positive and at this crucial momentum time for CMC a winnable bowl game is A OK. Beating a good Memphis team any way we can is better than getting our ass kicked by being over-matched in some bowl against Notre Dame or some SEC team.

I like to use a "Bowl Suckiness Factor" for things like this.

(1) Is your team bowl eligible?
(2) If answer to (1) is "yes," is your team in a P5 conference?
(3) If answer to (2) is "yes," did your team get placed in Pinstripe Bowl?"
(4) If answer to (3) is "no," your bowl invitation doesn't suck.
what is it now 5 of your last 6 bowl games vs non power 5 teams
yeah, that wouldn't suck lol
