In order to get two Big 12 in the BCS

Look at it this way... At large teams have to be in the top 14.

Only two teams from the same conference can make BCS games.

10 teams are in BCS games

With 6 teams in the top 14 from the SEC there are only 10 teams that would be at large eligible...

Big East winner will not be in the top 14

Here are the conference allotments that will be BCS At large eligible/Automatic

SEC: Two Guaranteed that they get two
Pac 12: Two Virtual lock that they get two
Big 12: Two
ACC: Two
ND
Big 10: one
Big East: one

That is 11 teams. Here is what we need to happen. Sorry, we all neeeeeed to root heavy for the SEC and teams most of us would probably not usually root for this week. Basically it is between ACC and Big 12 for that last spot. I'm basing this off just accepting the ND v SEC championship.

1) Florida to beat Florida State
2) South Carolina to beat Clemson
3) Rutgers beat Pitt
4) Louisville to beat Uconn
5) Ohio State to beat the heck out of Michigan

1 and 2 will drop both ACC teams below Oklahoma if Oklahoma wins out.

3 and 4 will mean that Rutgers and Louisville will play for the Big East championship the last week and pretty much guarantee that the Big East team stays above Kent State (who if they win the Mac, are top 16 and ahead of the Big East Champ would get one of the the BCS spots)

5 will keep Michigan away from the top 14.

When you are 6-6 maybe we just need to be thankful for the extra practice and that we are not staying home. I imagine we lost any good locations with the loss yesterday but it's still better than staying home, I think.

Those of us considering spending good amounts to go to a bowl can pull for anything that would make it a better trip.

It depends on what is good? Some want the highest bowl in the pecking order, some just want to avoid the Pinstripe Bowl...

Thanks for doing this. Who do we need to win in our conference? Or does it matter if the BCS teams do what you have laid out here.

Both Kstate and Oklahoma need to win out. I do not see Oklahoma State jumping into the top 14 if they beat Oklahoma.

I'm moving to Texas in a week so I personally am rooting for either of the texas bowls.

Need OU to win out to have a shot at 2 BCS bids and increase our overall payday. And one of the ACC teams with 1 loss needs to lose. Still not a sure thing with Nd, SEC and likely PAC 12 locking up 3 of the 4 at large bids

I'm also cheering for Purdue to win to get to 6 wins and Mich St to beat Minnesota - so they both end 6 and 6. I don't want to play a MAC team, rather play a Big 10 team.

I like what you did there with saying exactly what I said except with fewer words...

Part of me only wants one from the Big 12 in the BCS. Let's say we get one because OSU knocks off OU or something. Things would almost certainly shake out close to this:

Fiesta - Kansas State
Cotton - Oklahoma or Texas
Alamo - Texas or Oklahoma
Buffalo Wild Wings - Oklahoma State
Holiday - Texas Tech
Meineke Car Care - TCU
Pinstripe - West Virginia
Heart of Dallas - Iowa State

Here are some pros of the Heart of Dallas Bowl:

*New Year's Day bowl game
*Big Ten opponent (if they can fill seven bowl slots, which would require Purdue to beat Indiana and Michigan State to beat Minnesota)
*Best location of any realistic bowl for ISU in terms of travel, fan base in the area, etc.

Some negatives:

*Low exposure - the game is on ESPNU at a time with a lot of other bowls on television
*Potentially a mid-major opponent - Indiana is beating Purdue right now

Personally I know that the best chance for me to go to the ISU bowl game is if it is Heart of Dallas, so part of me is hoping for the Big 12 to just get one in the BCS. We'll very likely be going to Dallas if that happens.

Big East teams are not helping...
Louisville and Rutgers losing will put Kent State and Boise State up two spots.
With Texas losing to an unranked TCU that puts em up to 19 and 20...
Oklahoma beating OkState will put em up to 18 and 19,
a UCLA loss moves em up to 17 and 18
and a Michigan loss moves them up to 16 and 17

Kent State making a BCS game before us would be super depressing and I do not want Boise to sneak in again.

Big 12 will likely be a one BCS team league. Might as well accept it now.

This is true, there are 3 games that all need to go a certain way to make it a two-bid league

Oklahoma over Oklahoma State
Kansas State over Texas
Oklahoma over TCU

If any of those don't happen, Big 12 is a one-bid league and ISU is likely headed to Dallas

Unless baylor gets eligible and then dallas will likely choose them over us and we end up at a non-big12 bowl

Heart of Dallas is the last pick?

Yes. This is the bowl order for the Big 12. Note there may or may not be a second BCS pick as well.

Fiesta
Cotton
Alamo
Buffalo Wild Wings
Holiday
Meineke Car Care
Pinstripe
Heart of Dallas

Depends what you want. If you want more Big XII money but the Cyclones likely going to New York City then by all means root for Oklahoma and K-State the next week (two in BCS).

If you want a better bowl option for more fan support then root for either Oklahoma or K-State to lose the next week. And for Tech to beat Baylor, who is yet to clinch eligibility.

If we are a one bid BCS league then I have a hard time believing the Car Care Bowl doesn't take a Texas team. It then leaves the Pinstripe Bowl as a toss-up between Iowa State, Baylor (if eligible), and West Virginia. If West Virginia is still available then they will likely end up in NYC. That leaves the Heart of Dallas Bowl to take ISU or Baylor and it's hard to believe they don't take the team down the road. That then is the worst case scenario where ISU gets an at-large bid but there are other bowls who are interested, so they will play somewhere.

Worst case in my mind is the Big XII puts two in the BCS, Baylor gets eligible, and everyone slides up a spot. That all but guarantees the Pinstripe comes down to ISU and Baylor (West Virginia would either go out west or to the Car Care Bowl). What you hope for is the Pinstripe sees lower ISU turnout this year and takes Baylor instead, which opens up Heart of Dallas for ISU.

Baylor would have fewer fans than Iowa State at a bowl in Waco
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Baylor_Bears_football_team

On December 4, 2011, Baylor accepted an invite to represent the Big-12 in the 2011 Alamo Bowl. Their opponents were the Washington Huskies of the PAC-12.[SUP][23][/SUP] The game was played at theAlamodome. The crowd of 65,256 represented the 5th largest attendance in the history of the bowl game. A very good showing since the highest ever attendance at an Alamo bowl was only 66,100 which was set several years before.

2010 Texas Bowl was Baylor's first bowl in 16 years

2011 Alamo Bowl = View attachment 16520

Can't really compare them although that number is more impressive than I thought. I don't believe Baylor will become bowl eligible, but if they do that could throw a wrench into things. What are some bowls out there that look at though their tie-ins won't be filled?
