Just found this poll of all college football teams, and where they are projected to finish at the end of the year.

Northern Illinois - 38
Iowa - 41
Tulsa - 65
Iowa State - 71

How the HELL did he come up with these numbers? If he is even remotely accurate, seems we may be a bit overconfident going into Iowa City this weekend. I was expecting to see us in the spot NIU is in, Iowa about where they are, Tulsa about where they are, and NIU where we are ranked!

We may end the year on a bit of a low note...this guy actually may have put some thought into what we was writing. With the schedules that may be accurate.

Why is strength of schedule on there if it isn't part of his calculation?
It's a projection for the end of the season, our schedule is tougher which will lead to more losses, which will lead to a lower ranking. Also he might just not think we're that good.

What I think you are saying is that he is strictly ranking on projected W's and L's. If so, why even bother putting the SOS on there?

It's formula based. It isn't going to be even close to accurate until there is a lot more data involved. SOS plays some part I'm sure, and is probably skewing the results quite a bit early as there is nothing else out there...

If you go to the Sagarin rankings in the USA Today this week they still have Tulsa 4 spots better than us even though we beat them.

If that's true, what the hell kind of formula wouldn't put a team ahead of the team it beat after week 1? Shouldn't the median be the teams with week 1 byes until after week 2 when there would be more data to establish SOS?

Most of the time problems like this are because the formula starts off the season including data from the previous year so they can put something out right away. Unfortunately what they are really doing is corrupting the results with meaningless data.
