He threw the ball to the where only Allen could make a play, otherwise it's probably incomplete. That's pretty much the definition of the a good throw on the sidelines. Whether or not it was a check off to that throw, or if it was a throw that was called is irrelevant. I would argue if Allen had a step on the DB then it should have been a Deep route. If he was even then the back shoulder throw is the correct one. Whether or not Allen knows its coming is another story. There's a ton of conjecture here. Also, as far as comparing Richardson to Lanning, Sam wouldn't have been able to make that same throw. Lanning made the decision and put the ball where it needed to be. Yes Allen made a great play, but that wouldn't have happened if Sam were in there.
There is a lot of BS in this but the bolded is the most. Sam actually made similar throws in the same game. 31 yarder to Daley on the run. 27 yard throw to Lazard down the rt sideline. Two passes in the endzone to Bundrage one he caught but wasn't given the TD. The other the DB had Bundrage's rt hand and Bundrage almost got it with his left hand. Another to Montgomery that was called for PI and another to Lazard called for PI. How about the scramble and 24 yard throw to Bundrage to set up the second TD after Bundrage fails to complete the catch to the ground(BS call). There are more.

They didn't have Lanning's arm strength but they were all similar in length and placed perfectly. To say Sam can't make those throws is flat out ignoring the ones he makes. He misses 1 in five of those and people concentrate on the one and then blame the loss on Sam.

Again, I am all for getting Lanning more snaps and getting him full series. I would love to see him get a set of downs in opponents territory

Not doubting this at all and look up my posts, I'm far from a "Lanning should be starting" guy, but seriously, does this really matter that much anymore? I mean could it be that our playbook is too difficult in general to understand and that's why we suck so bad? I mean at this point, no matter who is QB, I'd like to simplify the playbook and focus on running good routes, opening holes for the backs and just playing some football.

Seems to me our coaches try to outsmart everyone with our playbook, instead of saying, "Hey, that worked, let's keep using that.
I'd like to add, teach our WRs to block

You're like the deanvogs of this site...yawn.
Well Heitclone stated that people point out the one good throw X amount of games ago so Ihad to respond with plays he made. Heitclone also stated that no one gets as much slack as Sam so I had to point out how much slack others get.

Sorry if your ADD keeps you from reading anything more than two sentences long. It does explain a lot though.

Was Lanning's TD throw a crappy throw? Yeah, possibly.

Did he throw the ball to a very talented WR in 1-on-1 coverage who was 6 inches taller than the corner covering him? Yes.
And that last part is really all that matters.

Taz needs to get a life.... Idk what his motives are but that dude is going to unbelievable lengths to put lip stick on a pig. Worse than that his unquestionable knowledge is mostly conjecture. He has no idea who called what, what routes are supposed to be ran or were checked off. Sam is not the problem but he is most certainly not the answer.

Crappy decision maybe. Pretty throw. You guys don't even know if he was supposed to throw on that play.

My motivation is calling out statements like "it was a perfect throw". You claimed it was a perfect throw, double downed and said it was a NFL throw. I linked a story where the guys that perfected the throw discuss how and when to make the throw that directly refutes your claim. If you have an issue with my knowledge, I suggest you take it up with them. What I posted isn't anything most coaches/QBs don't already know about a back shoulder throw.

You are correct, I don't know what was called. I do know when and how to throw a back shoulder pass. You don't know if Lanning was trying to throw a back shoulder throw or if the throw was horribly off target. Considering Lazard had half a step, the throw should NOT have been back shoulder and should have been downfield. But not knowing if it was a back shoulder throw or a poorly thrown ball didn't stop you from claiming it was a perfect pass.

It was a great, exciting play. I am glad that Lanning threw the ball. Rhoads should have said it was a great play when asked about it. However, it doesn't show anything special about Lanning besides arm strength which is valuable but not the most important value in a college QB.

I also wish Lanning would have gotten a few more sets of downs or even a full series but I understand why they didn't do it. Burton went down early in the third quarter(goodbye run game) and TCU was bringing their LBs to shut down the run game. They brought six on most plays with one LB taking the RB out of the back field when passing. That means single coverage. Which means pass, pass, pass. Sam played well in the passing game. He had about 3-4 bad throws otherwise was on target and moving the ball.

I can't claim it was perfect for what was called. Considering the velocity he put on the ball ya that was a NFL throw.

Also, no Sam can't make that throw. Would have been picked off because he doesn't have the arm strength. I've got no problem with you and I think you probably do have great knowledge but all I've seen you do is beat your drum for three days, while questioning other people's understanding. The DB never looked back. That's a back shoulder throw in my book all day, especially considering the target.

He gets slack form the coaches but not from the fans. I disagree about people bringing up one throw or whatever. That is crap. People regurgitate what they have seen from the past and make every bad throw into a game loser.

Sam was responsible for the failure of 1 maybe two series out of seven that ended without a score on saturday. Yet fans blame him for the ineffectiveness of the offense the last three quarters. He had a handful of bad passes but not much more. Guess what...every QB has a handful of bad passes.

I don't see a thread ragging Montgomery for getting knocked on his *** on 3rd and 3 and killing a drive. Montgomery, Bunderage and Lazard have been inconsistent blockers all season and their blocking has cost iSu some big plays. It isn't new and they have done it for multiple seasons.

I don't see people ragging on Bundrage for the go route where Sam threw a perfect throw to the sideline but Bundrage for some reason gradually ran the route two yards in. But then most think Sam threw a ****** ball. Reality is Bundrage was two yards off and Sam threw the ball right where it should be thrown just inside the sideline.

I don't see people ragging on Bundrage for his false start on 2nd and 4, then the dropped ball from Lazard on 3rd and 9, and then the hold on Philbert and the slip on Thomas on the screen that was well blocked.

Warren has fumbled in the red zone twice this season. One most likely costs us a win. The other cost us a great drive in a back and forth game. No comments.

Here are the failed drives and why they failed
2nd quarter
13 play-57 yard -Series ends with the Warren fumble on TCU's 18
3 play 3 yards- Sam missed Ryen on first down, three yard run on second Sam hurried and throws it away at Warrens feet on 3rd Poor protection punt from the ISU 33

3rd quarter
4 play-33 yards- 2nd and six Sam sacked on Corner blitz trying to go deep and a fumble on TCU's 42
8 play- 48 yards- Montgomery gets knocked on his *** on 3 and 3 otherwise Wesley gets the first down and much more. Punt form TCU's 45

4th quarter
13 play 49 yards- 3rd and 9 Lazard doesn't complete the catch to the ground that was originally ruled a fumble. 4th down, Thomas slips on a well blocked screen and Philbert called for holding. TO on downs on TCU 26
11 play-43 yards- 2nd and four and Bundrage false starts. Run the ball twice. 4th and 3 and Campos false starts. Incomplete pass TO on Downs at the TCU

People want to think that a QB is going to make all those games winners...great. I tend to look at all the warts and think it will take more. \

Sam had three incompletes in the second quarter one to Bundrga in the endzone that was well thrown but he defender had Bundrages right hand and no PI. The overthrow to Ryen that would have gone for 10 yards max and one to Warren where Sam was pressured and threw it away at Warren's feet to avoid the sack. One bad pass in the whole second quarter. BTW he completed three. He had three incomplete passes in the first quarter and yet iSu scored 21 points. Why didn't iSu score int he second? A fumble maybe?

Sam did not have one incomplete pass in the third quarter and only one that was off target and that got called for PI.

Now maybe Lanning has "it" and he elevates everyone's game so the missed blocks don't happen, the drops don't happen, the penalties at critical times don't happen. I am not being a smart ***. Maybe he has "it" that gets everyone to believe.
Don't care about the bad luck, or a breakdown of certain players that results in a domino effect of a play not working or a bad call by a ref. I want this program to start winning. Anything else are just excuses. They might be valid but I'm at the point that I don't want to hear about we didn't win because of X. I want to hear we won because we did Y. Start making this program successful or get out.

This times a million. The problem with our philosophy is that we don't play to win. We play scared to make mistakes. Simplify the damn offense if no one can understand every subtle nuance. It's stupid to preach perfection on every play anyways, you are just going to fail. Keep it simple stupid. The argument that Joel isn't ready to use the whole playbook is bunk. You think Johnny Manzel new the GD offense his freshmen year? You build your scheme around your players, you don't force a square peg through a round hole and yell at it for not fitting perfectly the first time.

Just to be clear this is directed towards Rhoads not any poster.

Just wait until next year. Unless a JUCO comes in on his white horse we're either going to have a RS Junior QB who supposedly can't understand the playbook after two years in the system, a 5th year senior who hasn't even taken a snap this year, or a RS Freshman. Yippie.
