Why continue to play UNI?

I can't see any reason to continue to play this series can you? Win this game and oh well, you are supposed to. Lose this game and it is an absolute embarrassment. 3 losses to UNI in the last 15 years. JP, please axe this series. At least Kent State was D-1.

I have invested 25 years of my life into this program, when does next year arrive? Coaches come and go, administrations come and go and here we sit 2 games into the season talking about patience and next year.

I've been ******** about this for years. We sound like Hawk fans and their obsession with ditching the ISU/Iowa series, but at least both teams are in the same division.

Playing I-AA's nowadays just isn't worth it. Ask Michigan.....and ISU.

I-AA teams have beaten I-A teams 50 times. ISU has 3 of those losses. All to UNI.

We should generally be better than them every year from a personnel standpoint, so unless their coaches are traditionally better, we should beat them.

It also fills the seats.

Other than money from the butts in the seats there is no reason. It's a lose-lose and I've been against it for awhile. Why do we have SDSU next year instead of an Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan St, Arkansas, or even a Colorado St team. I know some programs won't do a home and home, but I think that it we tried we could find someone.

Because just because we're in the same state it's supposed to be some kind of rivalry.

We would likely lose badly to Minnie, Ill, Mich St, Arkansas and Colo State.

UNI doesn't look like we're trying to throw in a free win because they're in-state and are traditionally a good team.

We can't afford to play a reasonably good team with a 12-game schedule. UNI gives us the best chance to win.

No one will even notice that we lost because we're Iowa State and not Michigan.

Unfortunately, you just stated the exact reason that we do it and will continue to do it. The other problem is that you schedule that game expecting to win. The risk/reward is just part of the whole thing. It's a risk if you lose the actual game, but you don't lose anything when the stadium sells out.

And what does it do to ticket sales and recruiting when we lose to UNI? Chizik has got to be wondering what he has gotten himself into.

Now that they've beat us again, we need to play them atleast a couple more times to gain back our self respect.

Ticket sales to that game will never suffer because we lose. Do you realize how many people didn't even know this game took place? The majority of the country. No one will de-commit because we lost to UNI.

Chizik knew this would be a tough job. He probably didn't realize how tough it would be. This is a challenge that he is more than willing to take on. Just watch the post game press conference. He is pissed, you can tell, but he knows whats going on and i think he can handle it.

I saw it on the ticker on ESPN. If we're recruiting a kid, I'm sure he's aware of the fact that the team was embarrassed and dominated by a 1AA team. I'd love to schedule a home and home with another major conference team.

If we are going to get our butts handed to us, the lest they could do is schedule someone cool like a top ten team. At least when we lose we could say that we got beat by some one good. Playing "lower level" teams just dosen't seem to work for us. Plus I would much rather see a good football team like LSU, Vtech, USC, or Florida than UNI. No offense Panther's.

I'm sure all of the recruits were glued to their tickers at home. They probably weren't watching one of the other games that were on TV.

All I'm saying is that as long as this game continues to make money, we'll keep playing it. I'm not necessarily for it, but I understand how business works. I would love to have a home and home with a team from any major conference too, and I'm not talking about the MAC or the WAC or Mountain West...

Why not play Minnesota? They're in the same boat we are, and we might even be able to get on the Big 10 Network! YEAH!

The games with UNI were scheduled as sure wins, also as sure games we could always play at home which means more money. It's not like we're ever going into the UNI Dome.

I agree. If we're going to lose, we may as well lose to good, established programs.

I'd much rather see us get our ***es kicked by good teams rather than watching us get squashed by teams that we SHOULD be able to beat.

The unfortunate thing that we are also failing to realize is that none of the SEC, ACC or Big 10 teams would benefit from playing us either. I'm not saying that we're 1-AA caliber year in and year out, but let's break this down.

Iowa State is one of the least popular teams in a major conference with little rivalry history with anyone outside of the state. While ISU is better known than say Louisiana Monroe, we are likely to have a better team than them.

So what I'm trying to say is that we are not popular enough to be a big draw for them, but we also have potentially more talent than a ULM and would make a team look bad if they lost to us.

That is why we have to continue to play our non conference schedule against teams from lower conferences, because they are the only ones that really will benefit at all from playing us. If this doesn't make sense to you, I apologize, but I'm too lazy to write anything else to clarify.

Totally agree, Bryce. Here is a list just for starters: Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin, Illinois, Colorado State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Oregon State etc. I hate to lose, but losing to a 1-AA school is like getting beat up on the playground by a kid half your size.

I wish it were that simple. But ISU likely won't be able to pick and choose those teams. We just don't have the national status. I hate saying it, because I love the Cyclones, but we just don't have the profile.

I know what you are saying. I would just like to see us end this series with UNI and play the likes of a Minnesota. A loss would be a lot easier to accept if the team was at least D-1A.
