Why do journalists and the media think anyone cares about this NIL stuff?

Feel like they all think they are being hot-take edgelords when no one but themselves really give a ****. I think they just see content content content with this thing but it’s boring. Thanks for giving us none of what we want and everything we don’t ask for, including Rick from New Sharon.

Im trying to put my finger on something but I’m not quite there yet. The type of people that see a race car driver wave as he goes past another car and freak the **** out about it like it’s the coolest thing they’ve ever seen. Then the guy that calls in to the sports talk station to agree with it. It’s “bugging”me. It needs to be a category of guy. Like a guy that won’t stop talking about hot sauce and how spicy of food they can eat but then you only ever see them eat bare chicken. I don’t k ow, ranting at this point.

Because college basketball kind of sucks and football isn't far behind with the same teams every year so they need something to hype.

For what 'guy' it is...I think Bobo fits well.

It’s the offseason for college football and basketball. Other than writing national columns about important things like Purdy’s glorious mullet and whether or not he should grow a mustache to go with it, there’s really not a whole lot to talk about right now.

Also, NIL may change what we know as amateur athletics, so, it is kinda newsworthy.

I don't know but I'll say this much. Before I thought that college athletes getting paid may hurt Iowa State - b/c Iowa is a smaller market and Des Moines/Ames is not a Miami or Austin or LA.

But @JStanz51 made one of the better points I have heard him make in my ten years following the site. Iowa with no pro sports - the Cyclones and Hawks are the only game in town. So our best football and hoops guys should get many opportunities to sell gear, represent ads for companies, and make some pretty good money. More opportunities than a place like denver (where I live) where college sports are a total afterthought.

Mr. Gunnerclone,

I think I'm with you on this. In fact, the only thing I care less about is getting Jack Whitver's take on this topic.

This thread isn’t about the NIL, it’s about the type of guy that lies to talk about the NIL and the tribe of people that think they are super ******* cool but pretend like they don’t think they’re cool. **** those guys.

I am surprised. Are you gents joking?

This is huge news. High school athletes and their parents are all talking about this and it is a topic on all visits.

In Tuscaloosa, College Station, Austin, C-bus it is all over the place.

Are these some of the same people that do CrossFit. And you only know about it because they won’t ******* shut up about it, even though no one who doesn’t do CrossFit gives no ***** about CrossFit?

And so it begins, almost immediately. Just wait until the various oil companies start bank rolling all the Texas/Oklahoma teams.
This is the one thing that can bring Nebr back. They have many many companies that are willing to buy empty seats to keep a streak alive. Those companies will be throwing money at football players now. IMO this is a pandora's box and college football will probably not change for the better.

That was my problem with the entire thing from the beginning.
