AP Stylebook's New Tool Automatically Proofreads Your Writing

There's a software (for PC only right now, but a mac version is on the way) that automatically edits your writing.

On one hand, I'm extremely jealous, I remember having to actually learn this in High School...

On the other hand...I'm very thankful I learned it all in High School and I can't see this actually helping anyone learn to write...

I graduated HS in 1998 and by then we were just barely to the point of certain assignments being required to be typed out vs hand written so wouldn't have done a lot of good for those English papers you had to hand write 10 pages worth. I don't think my HS even had high speed internet yet by then, we had a select few PCs in the school with dialup that you could only use with a teacher in the room supervising.

I also wish I was back in high school, however, for a different reason. Being in high school means that I am very close to going to college again, and with both Fred Hoiberg and Paul Rhoads locked up for a little while, I think the next 4-6 years could be very special as an ISU student. I imagine better than my 2003-2007 stint.

I graduated in 1991. That really wasn't that long ago. In typing class half of us used an old computer and the other half used a typewriter. The next week, we'd switch off.

That was my same time as ISU...and in the same area of study. Who the devil are you, Triggermv!?! lol. Seriously though, there were a ton of lows and very few highs for athletics while we were in school...

I'm very glad I went to ISU when I did (98-02) Probably some of the best stretches ever in ISU athletics. 5-0 against Iowa (I was a super senior so got an extra fall semester in 02 before I graduated) along with the 9-3 2000 season Insight bowl win and 7 win seasons in 2001 and 2002. Back to back conference BB titles and an elite 8 appearance. Women's team also won the conference in 2000 and the conference tourney in both 2000 and 2001, made the sweet 16 both years as well.

We had this same debate when calculators were allowed. And they had the same debate when pencils w/ erasers began being used. Adopt new technology and move on for gawd's sakes!!!

Yep, get used to it. Now our high school graduates lack the skills to add/subtract AND read/write!

Hah. I graduated HS in 1974. In our typing class there were 1/2 electric typewriters and 1/2 manual. We switched off about 1/2 way through. The manual to electric students made the switch pretty easily. Those going from electric to manual had some issues. There were 2 of those "new" IBM typwriters with the ball instead of individual keys; that was pretty high tech in the day.

The only thing is, unless you're in a journalism class, that formatting is going to be garbage. Also, I really doubt it's going to find any kind of spelling errors in the way of using the wrong word (then/than, etc.).
