Will Sam have a different path than Steele and Jared?

The Man of Steele was Captain Comeback in his first 3 career starts for the Cyclones. UNI, Iowa, and Connecticut...He owned the 4th qtr. in those first games, but just could not keep his production at that level over a whole season.

Barnett EXPLODED in his first start in Lubbock. Texas Tech, Kansas,...then one of the greatest wins in Cyclone History, #2-Oklahoma State. But, he just couldn't be consistent over a long stretch of games.

Will Richardson's big win in game #1 of his Cyclone career be different?

I will say this. Steele and Jared are great athletes that can throw the ball. Sam is a passing quarterback, who can run a bit.

To me, that is the difference.

I think the staff needs to commit 100% to SR right now. There can't be any doubt that Sam will be the guy for the duration of games 12 and 13. Give SR complete confidence that he is the guy for 2012, and he's the guy that Rohach needs to unseat if he wants the job next year.

I just don't want to see anymore of the QB carousel. Put the Jatz v. Barnett chapter to bed once and for all and build for the future. SR appears to have a great set of skills to build from. He's the man now, and let him and GR battle this offseason.

I think he's got the potential but it's too early to tell. I will say one thing though, he looked poised out there today. Very calm and collected. He was also having fun which is great to see!

If Jantz was indeed knocked out from the hit he took, I wouldn't anticipate he'll probably play again for ISU. Start Sam and use Barnett as the backup.

then begin the QB race all over again between SR and GR et al. in the summer.

I never heard, did Steele get injured and that's why Sam came in? They never said on the radio (at least that I heard). John and Eric were speculating it was a "planned" 3rd series thing.

To me, it is a good but not dominating team being able to do something--anything--to not be predictable to another teams defensive coaches and game plan. In your examples, ISU was generally coming in with a surprise or something unusual for the opposing team and it worked. Tonight was classic, I think they spent all week watching film on Steel and his tells and tendencies, and then they peed their pants when Sam came in....granted Same played great. We must stay unpredictable offensively. We must stay one step ahead of the other teams' scouting and game prep. I still think we play more than one quarterback simply as part of the gameplan for the next game as well as the bowl game. I still think something was exposed--a tell or a cue in how Steel puts his feet or how he holds his hands--that all the other teams picked up on. Anyway, keep them guessing.
Hell, start Steel on senior day...tell him to run hard and head first like it is his last play. Bring in Sam in second series.

Sam hinted in the locker room interview that Jantz was showing some "symptoms" after the last hit he took.

I don't understand why it would be bad to have more than one qb in a game?? such narrow thinking....and predictable. Sam was hot and healthy tonight. As we all know, this will not always be the case. We must do extra now to compete with the big boys, and being less simple to draw up a defensive game plan for would be a benefit.......We are going to get a bowl opponent with about 3 weeks to prepare, and trust me, if there are weaknesses in Sam, they will be exposed for their game plan on film by then. We are not so dominate like Ohio State to just put our athelete zone-reader out there and so go get em....we have to try harder at this point.
I really dislike KU.....this is great.

Let me know when SR beats someone other than Kansas. Like was said above, both Steele and JB had their moments but until I see more from SR I'm not sold. I hope SR is the answer at QB for the clones. With an upgrade at QB we have a shot at getting those 4+ wins in conference in future years.

We still don't know how good SR is because he didn't really have to do anything too impressive. The rest of the offense just played great (great routes, blocking, and running) and SR made the plays that were there. The big difference though is that he actually made those plays unlike the other options we've had this year.

Sunshine's only incompletions were when KU blitzed. I expect all future opponents will be persistent blitzing the young guy. I hope he picks up the read and screen passes quickly.

Everyone's job is to make plays. SR made one bad decision and maybe 2 actually bad throws. He was pretty good. Both deep balls to Lenz were on the money. He isn't afraid to pull the trigger. He goes through his progressions quick and lets it rip. That's what I was impressed with. That and his disposition. I was really happy to see both of the other guys act the way they did as well. Jared especially. He is a great teammate.

Sam Richardson probably just beat a better team on the road than Steele has beaten period. Baylor, Iowa, Iowa, Tulsa, W Illinois, UConn, and UNI. Granted Kansas sucks too, but if you have watched them play, a very impressive win. Only Barnett has beaten a good QB among all our QBs, and u shouldn't be sold on any of them,

Remember that when you look at first drives Richardson started out way better. I think Jantz went three and out to start the UNI game last season and couldn't score until the end of the 2nd quarter. Barnett threw a pick. Richardson on the other hand had the TD drive vs. Western Illinois and the 89 yard drive today.

Oh God please no...Do NOT want to see two quarterbacks in and out. It does not often work. Need to put that focus and confidence into one player.

I couldn't watch the game today, so I can't comment on that. But, I do know that other teams now have film on Richardson so that cat & mouse game will begin with opposing defenses. We'll see how good he is next week with a defense probably prepared for him to play. Great results from his first meaningful action. I look forward to seein more of this guy!

P.S. Even though our qb play has been dreadful much of the time this year, how much would that suck to be the West Virginia Defensive Coordinator to have to prepare for not 1, not 2, but 3 qb's in practice this week?

Only thing I can say is that its likely the coaching staff got it right waiting to play him.

Just look at Stanford. Hogan wasn't in the conversation at the start of the year Nunes and Nottingham were the ones fighting closely for the job. So he likely wasn't ready to start the season similar to Richardson.
