Interesting note about the special 30 day window for WV players to enter the portal. Is there anyone in particular that we might be interested in?

I was wondering this too.

I was wondering this too. I am guessing probably not because I don’t recall going head to head with WVU for any of their recruits, but we do have a roster spot open!

CW and Blum outright said (or at least heavily implied) WVU bought most of its roster with NIL money. Reading a little bit into what they said on the podcast, it sounds like some sugar daddy or daddies of the program colluded together, decided to plop down a bunch of money one time and probably one time only (not having the cash to go toe-to-toe with the deepest pocket NIL teams season after season) to make one final effort to win the Big 12 and make a deep tournament run to send Huggins out with a victorious bang.

So, it is a team of mercenaries. Mercenaries can still win a war, but if they went to Morgantown for money, then I doubt they'd be much of a fit in Ames. Not what TJ wants and we don't have the cash.

Do not want to sound like a fan that wants to pile on someone else's misfortune, but doesn't stories like this (if true with the NIL one-time cash daddies effort) just take the cake? You put all that money forward only to have the head coach suddenly resign due to issues of his own doing. Nothing is ever a sure thing, but maybe all the transfers will stay anyway, make their NIL money, and play their butts off for someone. Still seems like forking out tons of money on these teams/players/etc. is a gamble.

Sure is! It's the wild wild west out there right now.

On the other side, Miami got dinged a few weeks ago for having their sugar daddy promise a bunch of money to players he didn't have and the players being upset they didn't get paid --

There is going to be some sort of regulation coming to this. I don't know what form it is going to take, but if rich white dudes who have their state's governor's cell phone number and poor and mostly nonwhite young men and women who provide very sympathetic stories for an interested media to cover keep getting burned by this, then somehow a clampdown is coming. Not sure the form, but it will come.
