You can scream that as loud as you can and we all should, unfortunately humans suck. And suck even worse behind the anonymity in social media
Amen, brother. Our athletes will need to also unplug from social media for their own sanity, unfortunately.

It'd be nice if this podcast could at least acknowledge the role they played in leading the charge on the hype/expectations all last offseason and during the hot start at the beginning of the season. To now listen to them discuss all that in the passive voice, as if they were just witnesses to it rather than primary contributors, is disappointing.

It isn't their fault that the team didn't meet expectations, but we were wildly misled on the team's depth and development.
You think Williams & Blum control the AP poll and had ISU in the top 10 preseason?

Interesting to see the Sweet 16 team builds

It is probably not fair to look at this in a vacuum, but one should also be mindful of the tenure of the head coach. Kentucky for instance is first year under their coach. Would be unrealistic to expect them to recruit and develop the bulk of their players, under these circumstances.

Definitely many of these kids got thrust into "celebrity" status on social media as that is also their way of making money in some ways with sponsorships.

Like you said, almost need to use it just for that and then shut off notifications, close direct messaging. as for every 10 "great games" comments they probably get equally as many bad comments

"Williams and Blum gave me too much hope and it didn't come true. They should apologize!"
I know you have been a fan for a long time but holy cow this is a crazy take. You make it sound so nefarious.....

Not exactly sure.
Oh come on. We are all (assuming majority of us) are adults. You can choose what you want to believe or not believe or what disappoints you and what doesn’t.

Not singling you out but a handful of people have posted similar comments about being misled and pumped with optimism. I will NEVER understand why people take two podcasters opinions as fact and gospel and if it doesn’t come true then they are the bad guys.

I said after the Marquette game this team could win a national championship..why don’t people come after me? I was wrong.
I think a big part of the gospel part is the friendship that CW and TJ have. It’s been pushed, true or not, so the belief is that CW as a hard source.

There are dumb comments, and there there is this. I wanted to point that out specifically rather than just drive by with a dumb button.

I respect your posting history but you essentially wanted an apology/acknowledgment that Blum and Williams misled Cyclones fans regarding the potential of a team that was 17-2 nearly 2/3 through the year and was being projected routinely as a Final 4 caliber squad by nearly every expert in the country. Come on. Quit doubling down on this.

Agree with your take on the Jackson/Chatfield combo. In hindsight having two similar players probably wasn't a good idea. But the portal is the speed-dating version of recruiting, so a coaching staff is limited in options and time. Plus NIL budget is a further limiting factor.

I would disagree on ISU needing a 5 who can stretch the floor. There's only so much space out on the 3 point line and if a team has 3 or 4 guys on the perimeter, someone has to be under the basket to get offensive rebounds. Sure guards are needed to rebound, but they are mid-range rebounders who have quickness to get long rebounds.
Actually Chat was a good 3 pt shooter in his past. We didn’t use him there.

Doubling down? That was my first post since my comment yesterday.

I don’t think there’s a dumber comment than you blaming 2 podcasters in Iowa for getting your hopes up when this was a top 10 preseason team (voted on by NATIONAL media)

I believe there is a Grand Canyon gap between getting some inside info from the locker room and being upset and misled from opinions of two people watching the games with the rest of us.

We have also heard during football season, recruiting, ect…it’s just unbelievable to me that adults cant think for themselves.

Agreed. Same with Arkansas, BYU, and Michigan.

CW and Blum have a vested interest in there being excitement around ISU athletics, particularly football and men's basketball. Of course they're going to be more positive than anything. Blum needs to raise funds so we have a chance at having talented rosters. We need fan engagement and excitement to pay for that. CW benefits from fan excitement by getting more subscriptions, clicks, engagement, etc. It's good for business. These guys are also fans that sincerely want ISU to succeed and will look at the glass half full, at least publicly.

I enjoy their podcasts and a lot of the other material that comes out of CF and Iowa Everywhere. I also form my own opinions and don't rely 100% on what these two guys say. They're talented, connected, and most importantly, Cyclone fans, but what they say doesn't replace what I see with my own two eyes.

BYU of course being the outlier in that they were able to move on with the new coach and many former legacy players. ISU is now with Tamin, Milan, Nojus?, and the freshman as legacy players. Appears we are trying to go the rental route, which is similar to several other Big 12 teams, providing few of the freshman crack the top eight this year.

Do we have enough NIL funds to be successful with the player rental approach? Would being a Michigan State or Purdue with majority legacy players be successful in the Big 12? Does any of this even matter?
