What are you all thoughts on this? I know it sounds good to have baseball back. However, nobody ever went to the games and it just cost a lot of money. Not sure if anyone would show up to womens wrestling either. I would rather we stay pat on the sports we have and spend the money that way.

Women’s wrestling would be better attended than baseball.

Sounds like an unfunded mandate to me, and I know how GOP love unfunded mandates. Tell him to get his checkbook out, as well as his fellow reps.

In the new NIL world to hell with both those ideas. Baseball in the 80s basically had 0 attendance and there is no reason to start a new non revenue producing sport like women's wrestling.

All athletic programs are having to cut 10% from their budgets and someone wants to add 1 or 2 sports!!

Dumb idea, but I'd go to women's wrestling before baseball.

but listen to the Coralville rep who said its women's wrestling because look at how well attended the high school meet was last weekend in Coralville. Hate to tell him but go watch the attendance of high school girls swimming at the state level vs the college level. big difference

Well aware that I’m in the minority here but I’d be all about Cyclone Baseball

It's not that most of us aren't "all about Cyclone Baseball"... it's that the team will suck 19 out of 20 years, nobody will attend the games because it's still really cold in Ames when the season starts, and by the time it starts getting nice enough to actually enjoy a baseball game outside it's already time for finals and/or summer break. But the biggest thing: it's an absolute drain on the AD budget when the football and basketball teams need as much $$$ as possible to compete in this new landscape of college athletics, especially when there's no ROI because of all the things I already mentioned.

You know - all the same reasons why the baseball team was killed in the first place.

Just another in the long line of bills that are introduced every year and never make it out of committee.

Some are pet projects. Others are to placate the people back home. But they're all usually crap.

There are a lot of stupid bills that never make it through.

The only way either sport is ever added is if it replaces another sport already here and I don’t see that ever happening.

Iowa State’s best chance to add woman’s wrestling was probably a couple years ago when Sorensen retired. Maybe you could’ve convinced the BOR to swap sports.

I’m not disagreeing. To be honest I can’t look at it objectively. I played baseball at an NAIA school in Iowa just a few years ago and would have done anything to play for Iowa State (if it was an option).
