if I hope TJ took a head coaching job and we got a former head coach to join the staff? (someone like former assistant Lutz) I say this because after watching Syracuse and Louisville.... defense wins the game. We don't have it. Sure if we are "on" we win, but after Friday night we weren't "on" and our defense was pathetic. Looked like an NBA team out there on defense. I just feel like we need someone that is a defensive coach. I hate trying to "outscore" a team. kudos.

I think you need different players to play better defense. We have Babb and Melvin and Georges and then who?

Yes...ISU was 4th in the Big 12 last year in defense,so this coaching staff knows what they are doing.

I am 100% convinced that Hoiberg realizes defense is important. I am also 100% convinced that we didn't have the players for really good defense this year.

I also wish we wouldn't compare Iowa State in year 3 of Hoiberg to the best teams in the country. It takes time to build a program. It is amazing that we are looking at our 2nd straight NCAA appearance, but this thing is still being built.

I prefer trying to outscore teams over slowing it down and playing defense. We are also dancing so we are fine.

I do not want anyone to leave but if someone does- that is the business. Lutz was a good coach but frankly, I never saw a drop off in any area after he left (yes, we had better players too) If somebody on staff were to leave, I would want an older coach again who does have background as a proven teacher on defense and game mgmt. skills. When Alford hired Craig Neal, he really became a better coach. The guy I most often compare CFH to (as if there is a comparison) is Billy Donovan. A great player who was a young coach. Donovan's early success was similar to CFH's success. When he really grabbed success is when he hired Larry Shyatt to his staff. I really believe CFH is such a hire away from becoming an even better coach. That KU staff last night (while I despise them) is really impressive. Roberts, Sadler and even DB Joe Dooley know what they are doing. Those resumes compared to TJ, MA and CM is a big mismatch

So IF we play Missouri we are in good shape? honest question. To me it's a nightmare matchup. We need to play a team like Wisconsin who slows it down.

First, Mizzou isn't that good. We can certainly beat them and I'm not sure what they've done this year to make you think otherwise.

Secondly, we just need to improve a little bit defensively and we're a 3-4 seed and possibly the B12 regular season champs. So it's not like we are miles away from where we want to be.

Lastly, if you lose a coach you want it to be Matt A, not TJ. Matt brings very little to the table from what I can tell. Mann and TJ are the ones producing recruits.

Totally agree. TJ is fine but Matt Ambedismiah(?) is expendable in my mind. If there was some shake up on the staff I would be fine with it.

Doc Sadler was a really good defensive coach.

If TJ leaves, I think we need to go after Wayne Morgan. I wouldn't be surprised if he wouldn't want to come back, but he is a coach that can recruit and is a defensive specialist. If we have him focusing purely on defense and Hoiberg focusing purely on offense, we can be good...very good.

I think people are underestimating Otzy as a coach. From what I can tell, he has grown into his #2 role very well. I will say though I think some (not all) of our defensive issues can be attributed to coaching. With a young coaching staff though that is bound to get better.

I'm not sure if you are serious. Morgan was a good recruiter, but to call him a defensive specialist is falling into a major trap. All he did that would make him a defensive specialist was play zone and have the media remind us that he coached with Jim Boeheim. Even if he does understand zone well, that isn't what Freddy does defensively and frankly I hope he doesn't ever start to play zone for full games.

I don't think we had the personnel to be that great of a team defensively this year, good thing we had an all-star offense.

Wait, so you're the one impressed by Doc Sadler.
