A natty pays massive dividends to any program, but it would be especially pronounced for a program like ISU. You take a NC 100x of 100.

In my opinion, CMC and staff's mission is not to place it's ultimate objective on winning.

We're not talking about WWI (17 million dead) or WWII (70 million dead), both wars in which the vast majorities of dead were non-combatants - old men, women and children.

To me, winning is fun. But, when CMC talks about working with young men, creating a culture in which his mission is to teach the qualities that will teach them the values and the techniques that will allow them to become better human beings, as a fan I'm all in.

So, what is the mission of The Iowa State University of Science and Technology? To me, a citizen who has lived as an aware American citizen of the 1960s, I say educate our young people, attempt to teach them awareness and let them assess what is important.

Coach Matt Campbell and the men he has assembled to work with him to further his mission to develop young men to become life successful (as the youngsters come to understand it for themselves) is, in my humble opinion, the epitome of an educational goal. Professor Campbell. Heh

Yep, CMC has to win games, just as an ISU educator must educate his pupils to a standard, otherwise both lose.

Me, I could care less if we never win a Natty. A Natty would be nice, but it doesn't matter.

If the mission/ultimate objective was not winning Dan McCarney and Paul Rhoads would have never been shown the door for not winning enough games. Both of those guys were culture guys who enjoyed working with young men and building character and qualities to help them succeed in life after football just as much as CMC does. You don't have to look hard to find testimonials of that either. The Kickin It Podcast had a great interview with Rhoads and Woody and Mahoney shared a ton of good stories about coach Rhoads and someone could probably write a book on the influence Mac had on his players. I remember the first year Rhoads coached the players talked about how much him and his staff made an effort to connect and be a part of their lives which was a noticeable change from how Chizik ran things.

Winning games is the ultimate goal especially in today's college football environment. Yes the culture stuff matters too and makes winning more enjoyable but at the end of the day success is measured in wins. There are plenty bad teams out there where you an say the coach is building character and preparing young men for success in life but eventually those guys get fired if they don't win enough games. In basketball I think that McDermott and Prohm both are standout guys that you would want to have an influence on your son as they were men with a lot of good character. But neither could win here and there are still fans today that hate both guys for not winning enough here. Prohm even had an alumni event that brought back former players that hadn't come back in a long time that got a lot of positive feedback but when you have a 2 win season none of that matters to the fans.

If I see a National title in my lifetime in MBB or Football I will be good to go. I think we get it done in MBB at some point.

Natty for sure. There are always good coaches out there. Especially if we have a NC under our belt.

Which does more for the program? Long term stability, or Campbell wins natty this year and leaves for Michigan or ND.
I answered the poll, not your comment here. I’m not convinced that Campbell would go anywhere else. He may be the only guy that wants to stake his claim as building something.

Him and Snynder and the Mt Union coach.

I love winning on Saturdays, and I’d love that for years. Natty… whatever, don’t care. Now if you asked me about basketball…. hmm..

Psst.

A. This isn’t a binary solution set.

B. CMC is turns 45 in a month. You’re setting the goalposts way too low.

I’l take “All Of The Above” for $100, Alex.

It would be amazing to win and I'd be there celebrating big time.

That said, I don't want an Auburn flash in the pan Natty. They suck now. Who even gives them any respect now?

Yes, a Natty is the goal. Not at the expense of long term viability.
Yeah, it would suck to be the 15th most successful program of all time.

A case of Amber Bock (Matt 24-30 more years) over a single Natty Light.

Is there even a question? A Natty slipped in there somewhere would be tolerated.

Campbell is the best we've ever had here and fits ISU about as perfectly as you can imagine, but this is a no brainer.... give me the natty.

Now, if you said or "Campbell for 10 more years with a 25% chance at a natty during that time" I'd think about it.

Natty.

There's a ton of schools with way better resources that rarely even get the chance.

You gotta take it when it's available.

Mouser moves up to HC and football seasons are still fun.
