This team is averaging 80.8 points per game, which would have been the second the second highest mark of the Hoiberg era. The team is also shooting 45.9 percent, which would be the third-best of the Hoiberg era.

The 5-3 record to start Big 12 play matches the second-best start under Hoiberg.

These guys aren't that far off. Just need to close and get a key win. Starts tonight.

Well, we haven't played our entire conference (and beyond) schedule yet. So we are more heavily weighing this year's non conference numbers in comparison to Fred's seasons.

Edit: 5-3 start still stands

I think the most surprising stat hasn't been mentioned. ISU is now leading the conference in steals per game (conference games only). They are also #1 in turnover margin. This is why I think they beat WVU. Least surprising stat. ISU is the worst rebounding team in the big 12. Worst defensive rebounding team in the league going up against the 2nd best offensive rebounding team in the league. They have to hit the boards hard tonight.

I assume points per game and shooting percentage goes down as we get further into the year with more Big 12 games and less cream puffs.

The 5-3 start in the conference isn't bad, especially considering the loss @ Baylor and loss to KU. It's just the fact that we have no good wins at this point in the year.

I am hopeful we can pick up a few good wins down the stretch and comfortably make the tourney.

That Citadel game sure helped.

I said conference only stats.

And number of rebounds doesn't tell you how good a team is at rebounding. Look at defensive rebounding % and offensive rebounding percentage. ISU last in both.

THIS.

Get 2/3 of those and we are ranked in the top 25 and feeling pretty good about things.

And sitting alone in 1st place in the Big 12 with wins against Baylor and Kansas.

1. The shot clock was shortened
2. 3rd best out of 5 years, and the first year shouldn't even count.

I agree this team is close, but they still need to figure a few things out.
