In the last few years I have been asked countless times by friends who don't know wrestling very well why Iowa state is ranked in the top 5 for duals and yet never finishes high during tournaments. I always told them we are extremely solid 1-10 but don't have enough high potential wrestlers and bonus points scorers, even when you say that it's still hard to picture. Ladies and gentlemen that is what it looks like, and we still have tons of room to grow! So proud!

Awesome weekend in Vegas. Quick novice synopsis.

125 - so inconsistent. Can run with anyone at this weight and can lose to about anyone it seems.

133 - grinder. Had a tough finals match but that was an experienced AA he lost to.

141 - only going to get better. Was right there with a couple of top guys, he looked worn out against Happel (tough cut?).

149 - was also right there with two top guys. Looks much better at 149. AA contender.

157 - right there against an AA, got tossed by a dangerous AA and will learn from it.

165 - unfortunate loss. Not worried about David, he will take care of business.

174 - managed to place, struggled after the first two wins. Looked a step slow on his feet, he will keep getting better.

184 - dangerous. Ran into a buzzsaw with Keck but did get a couple of solid wins and a pin against a top 5 guy.

197 - is who he is at this point. Can toss someone upper body but leg attacks aren’t there. Hope he can qualify in March.

285 - animal. Took down an AA and was the aggressor. Dominated every other match.

Overall very good team win and several guys are probably disappointed with how they finished. Thats a good problem to have.

Dresser said he would know a lot more about this team after Vegas. Does he make any changes at this point?

That will be interesting.

I feel the realistic goal (not expectation) should be a team trophy in KC. For that to happen, need consistency/improvement from 125, 174, 184 & 197 with a continued arc from 133, 157. I have confidence in 141, 149, 165 & HWT.

I don’t think a lot of people give Happel enough credit. He's a hammer and will continue to improve. No weight cut excuse needed. That said I think AE will also improve a ton and has incredible upside.
Happel is tough, didn’t mean to take anything away from him there.

I’m going to be real interested to see how the individual rankings shake up this week. Yonger should move up, so should Feldkamp. Carr will probably go down. Any other big changes for ISU?

Casey and AE will likely move up a couple of spots as well.

Carr #3, Yonger #3, Ech #15ish, and Swid #7 would be my best guess
