    I went to Mickey's more than any other bar in the early 2000's. I thought it had the best atmosphere.

    Sports bars and farmers markets? Please sell Des Moines to me! I'm genuinely curious. Keep in mind I'm 44, not married, and have no kids. I will say I enjoyed living in DM proper more than the suburbs though.

    Property taxes in the metro are outrageous and unless you like to drink there is absolutely nothing to do. At least MSP, KC, and Chicago are easy drives. The one thing DM does have is pretty good paying jobs relative to the cost of living.

    Des Moines was booming in the mid to late 2000's. It seems like Omaha has really been kicking their ass the last 10-15 years though.

    I barely recognize Campustown when I'm in Ames. I'm not sure I like how far west some things are relative to campus.

    McGregor is the prettiest town in Iowa. I didn't even know Iowa had that type of terrain until I went up that way a few years ago.
