The "Dirt and Urine" Nickname Might be Half Real?

If you can't watch the video, or don't want to, here is the jist: - In 1908 some guy was the 1st to drive cross-country with his family. Roads at that time were poor or non-existent. Guy got to Iowa and commented something like "there are two kinds of mud in Iowa - black mud and yellow mud."...

Ever score on an insurance company?

Maybe a better way of saying it is that on aggregate, insurance wins. I can assure you that insurance doesn't win in every individual situation. We should all also be mad at the amount of fraud committed against insurance companies. Last year or two, there was a lady here in Iowa that stole...

Ever score on an insurance company?

Yes, many times. I sold life insurance myself when I was very young. I barely got by for 2 years before I got out. Later, I worked servicing 401K plans (regular wage job). The number of insurance agents who had to constantly take loans from their 401K's and hardship withdrawals was concerning...

We have church friends who live within blocks of there. They had 1/2 their house ripped off by a tornado in the 80's. Yesterday they were hit again -- less severe, but lost windows, shingles, giant trees, etc. :(

Five things (among many) to watch at Iowa State's spring game on Saturday

Defense by a lot. I'm not sure how the scoring system worked (I didn't understand it at all), but the final was something like 30-1 in favor of Defense. The offense got up to a max of 9 or so points, then apparently if you do bad you can lose points. I walked by a couple old guys who said "I...

Five things (among many) to watch at Iowa State's spring game on Saturday

We couldn't tell. At least I couldn't. This was the most boring spring game we've ever been to (been to 8 or so). I wish they would put more info on the scoreboard, like down and distance, who is playing, etc. They started 15 minutes before the announced time so half the people (including us)...
