- In 1908 some guy was the 1st to drive cross-country with his family. Roads at that time were poor or non-existent. Guy got to Iowa and commented something like "there are two kinds of mud in Iowa - black mud and yellow mud." The narrator says that there is no official record of U of I picking their school colors based on mud, but implies he can't help but wonder ...
