funnel cloud downtown, guess a crane was trying to topple.
Topple a funnel cloud? Sounds like a gutsy crane.

Tornado sirens have now gone off twice in Urbandale.
I heard on the news that towns are going to start using the sirens for thunderstorm warnings now also, not just tornados. I am not sure Polk county was under a tornado warning or not.

That seems like a bad idea.
Absolutely. No need to induce unneeded panic.
The way I heard it on WHO radio was that once the winds hit 70 MPH, it'll trip off the sirens. I can understand wanting to alert those who work outside about the incoming weather (that's the purpose of the sirens), but it will get real old, real quick if we have to take shelter at work everytime it get's a little windy

I would think that the dark as night clouds rolling in would be sufficient to tell people to find shelter immediately. Once I'm in my shelter of choice, I'd like to know if there's a tornado or not within the vicinity, especially if I don't have access to a radio or TV.
you would think but there are a lot of stupid people and some people still need to be told its going to rain.
Exactly! We cant just stop thinking about the University of Iowa grads. They are real people too!
