makes sense, I think a 20 game basketball conference schedule is the future of high major basketball. Same should go for a 9 game conference football schedule. I heard news the SEC is thinking about going to 20 games as well but I'm not sure if they confirmed it or not.

Unlike football, I don't mind losing a few non-conference games for basketball. Apart from a tournament and the (Eastern) Iowa game, I'm not that interested, except for the first few games where you get to see the new players.

I've always been in support of more "quality" games and fewer cupcakes.

I think I was advocating (as much as anybody is going to listen to me) for a 22-game conference slate back when we thought the New Big 12 was going to have 12 teams instead of the currently projected 16.

22 home-and-home against the Big 12
1 Iowa
1 Big Ten challenge
1 Big East challenge
3 non-con tournament
3 cupcakes
= 31

Fewer homes games, sure, more losses, sure, but that's a much more interesting schedule to watch.

Obviously that can't happen now with 16 and maybe more incoming.

So, if I did... and I don't think I did but maybe I did... oops.

I wonder if this is a prelude to going to 18 teams (most likely Gonzaga and Connecticut) next season.

The 20 game schedule is better for tv and will help with metrics that impact making the tournament. More money sounds great to me.

So you play everyone once and rotate 5 teams to play twice every 3 years?

3x2 = 6 --> locked home-and-home against your "football pod" (e.g., ISU, KU, KSU, and Colorado)
2x2 = 4 --> rotating home-and-home against two other of the remaining 12 Big 12 teams (six-year cycle)
12x1 = 12 --> home OR away against the remaining 12 teams

So ISU could end up in a home/away with KU, KSU, Colorado and say randomly TCU and WVU and then once with everybody else. This, of course, could blow up if you suddenly are adding Gonzaga.

Anything to reduce the number of boring games in November and December against low majors I am cool with.

I think you need a few of those as a de facto preseason.

It is fun to let some of the guys at the back of the bench have a chance to play in real games, too.

But after 3-4 of them per season I'm done and want some real opponents.

Orlando can't come fast enough to see what this team can do against its peers.
