Great article talking about the changes Heacock and Campbell made just a few weeks into the season that led to the defensive improvements last year.

Wish I could paste it, but it is a subscription site and I would not feel right about taking content. But this is the second article they have done on ISU that is solid.

How long have you had The Athletic subscription? I've been thinking about signing up but I'm not sure it would be worth it.

That’s “stop my penis can only get so erect” level stuff.

I like it. Had it about one month (after free trial). Only $3.49/month if you sign up for one year. If they keep crushing some nice ISU articles, will likely keep it.

No worries, CW, my Patreon donation is more than that per month. I know where the best stuff is.

Can't see all of it, but I'm liking the consistent philosophy of 'how do we get our best 11 players on the field?'.

I know that should simply be what any coach anywhere does, but this staff just seems to live it and made it work at least last year.

If you like good sports writing it's 100% worth it.

Agreed. I was hesitant, but I subscribed over the winter and really enjoyed their coverage of the Vikings right up until they lost. Plus they have a few indepth articles on related sports topics like ESPN's offshoot used to have before they got rid of it.

Thinking about it as well. Bruce Feldman just joined the staff, who I think is about as good as a writer as there is out there.

It's fun to see articles like this line up real well with advanced stats.

ISU was 21st nationally in adjusted points per possession allowed at 1.73 (cfbanalytics.com) and did that by facing the 17th toughest set of offenses in the nation.

That big play piece they had in there was also great to see as ISU finished 15th nationally in percentage of opponent possessions w/ a 20+ yard TD, which they allowed to happen on 4.2% of possessions, or roughly one every 2.5 games or so.

Yay for statistics!
