. 100% in the kicking game (with one beautiful hold on a high snap). A fake? Is that the first one in CMC's career? Long return on a kickoff. Zero blunders.
No turnovers. Playing clean is critical for this young team. Rocco just taking what the defense gives. Rarely throws into traffic. Laid up a perfect long ball to Higgins. He has overthrown a number of times with receivers open in the past.
Aggressive offense. For the most part the offense stayed aggressive, even up late.

3 down
Wide open recievers.
Cinci had a number of wide open receivers throughout the game. Luckily Jones either overthrew them or never saw them at all. A good QB will make those throws. May have been a different game if he hits a few of those. especially the wide open would be TD early in the game.
3rd down efficiency. Or lack thereof. ISU has not been good in this area all season and continues to be In the lower 3rd of the big 12. 5-15 today. needed to attempt three 4th downs. Luckily they converted all of them. Can't expect to do that week in, week out.
Can't really think of anything else. More or less a dominant win. Both on the field and in the stats. Can't pick apart too much with a 20pt win on the road.

3 up:

Rocco: Continues to grow in front of our eyes. His poise and ability to make the right read is what we were sorely lacking last year.
Special Teams: 3-3 FGs. Fake FG. Two long kickoff returns. Read that attempted onside by Cincy perfectly.
Offensive skill players: Higgins was the obvious stud yesterday. But Noel made some key catches too. TEs had an overall good game. Sanders & Norton broke off some nice runs at key moments.

3 down:

Red zone offense: Settling for FGs after moving the ball extremely well earlier in the drive. It worked for this game, when your FG kicker is on, and your defense is doing it's job, it helped us salt the game away. But if either of those are off in future games it could bite us if we're having to trade FGs for TDs. Granted, if Brahmer doesn't get too cocky that first drive, one of those drives is a TD not a FG.
Linebackers: Will McLaughlin is a stud, but the rest of the unit needs to continue to develop. Jones had a number of easy runs to get Cincy 2nd/3rd and shorts often.
End of half clock management: Obviously I don't think anyone intended to have that end of 1st half possession go so poorly, but that was atrocious. Worked out fine, but Cincy shouldn't have gotten the ball again, or at minimum not had as much time as they did.

Overall, pleased with the team's performance. A conference road win is always a positive, and this is a great time for a bye week. Get healthy, clean some stuff up, and take care of business in Waco.

This is a young team starting to play like a seasoned unit, and it should be fun for us fans to watch this develop.

QB running. Gave him too many yards. Had some large gains that gave them new life.

Defense! Cincinnati had 99 yards passing, 214 total yards. Pretty good defense. Their QB was not very good, but 15 of 29 and 2 interceptions is a rough stat line. He was a 63 % passer before yesterday. I've noticed our 3 man rush gives opposing QBs time, but often they can't find a receiver. I do feel like we have a fairly good secondary. Need to figure out how to stop those TEs slipping off the line behind our LBs however.

Sama looked like he was blinking away stars at the end of TCU after a big hit.

Haven’t heard anyone mention it though.

Special teams. What a relief not having to watch the train wreck of the last several years week after week. Contreras is solid. Punting is solid. Returns, outside of Noel's rough outing against Iowa have been good. Coverage has been good. And hey, we even pulled off a trick play. STs is EASILY the highlight of the season and nothing else comes close.

Higgins: He didn't just have the stats, he made tough catches. Possibly my favorite play, call, and execution of the year was the roll left, drag completion on Saturday. Rolling gives Rocco time, he makes a tough throw, and Higgins makes a tough catch. That's what you want to see from your team in a down a s distance situation.

4th qtr rushing: We've ran the balk better, at times, but we have been finding more plays and yards in the 4th quarter. Sanders in particular makes some tough cuts against the grain to find the holes. If only...say...we didn't run the ball on 99% of the first downs in the 4th. A better mix might even give us MORE yards on the ground and in the air.

3 Down:

Linebacking play. Watch the tape and these guys are consistently missing gaps, taking poor angles, and just generally out of position. They are REALLY trying to supplant the OL as the worst positional group on the team. By the end of the year they might just get there.

Heacock. Hey, nobody is doubting his coaching chops but we would have had two every difficult games, OSU and Cincinnati, if their QBs were remotely competent and could hit wide open receivers (with all day to throw the ball). The 3 man front doesn't work when you can't generate pressure AND your LBs suck. It allows the receivers to find openings in the zone and exploit them. I guess, if the defense is going to be shake,y this is the year as the league possibly has its worst Qb play years. OU torched us, Ewers will torch us, and I feel Bean or Daniel's will torch us if the weather is good. Time to mix things up a bit more and work on generating pressure. Might as well if the LBs can't make plays in space.

Campbell getting the offsides when he CLEARLY had no intention of going for it. I HATE when a coach makes a poor decision, one which has ample amount of historical precedent telling him its not going to work, only to have one bozo on the field fall for it. Nothing grates me more when Campbell sends rhe offense out there only to burn a timeout we often could have used, or even needed later. The one "work" will justify the next 20 failures and it will bite our ass in a close games. Save this paragraph for later.
