Anyone had to replace an AC lately? My compressor is starting to fail. Who'd you use and how much? In Central Iowa. TIA.

I will be pricing out new AC and furnace this week. Mine work, but they are original and will need replaced soon. Be interesting to see overall cost.

I used golden rule in July 2019. I paid $5000 for a middle of the road unit. I didn’t look around because it was July and I was hot.

Of course they tried to talk me into a whole hvac for maybe $9000. I took a chance and my furnace is still working fine. I think it was the right decision.

Guy that came out tonight told us 4,500 including everything he did to get the compressor going tonight. He said it would match the efficiency of current. Only 7 years old. I need more info from him on his AC he would install.
It's crazy the mark up on everything what i could to do it myself if i knew slightly more electrical. The plumbing id be ok with.

Wyckoff, built a dozen or so houses with my father over the years. First time we used them we stopped looking around for better bids. They are on a different level.

Bell Brothers did our a couple years ago. They put in a Trane unit for 4-5k. We have a 2100 sq ft split level. The furnace was already newer so it was just the AC and coil.

They were absolutely great and have had zero issues. Ordered Friday afternoon and installed Monday morning.

Just put one in last week. Lennox 18 SEER variable unit, 5 ton. Npt quite their highest end model but close. Got 7 quotes ranging from 7500 to 10000. Not in Iowa though so your milage may vary.

Had mine done last year. 6700 for the furnace and A/C. If you are in Ames C and K was the best price I got. Service Legends and Schaal were double the price for the same efficiency unit just different brand.

Used a local company about 2 years ago to replace the AC and Furnace. Ran just under $6k total through the local company. 90% efficiency unit.

We went with a small company. Would use them again as they were very responsive and were able to help us out when everybody else was two to three weeks out. Family business

I used Elite Heating & Cooling - local company out of Des Moines for a whole new HVAC 5 or so years ago. Great service - I called at 5:30 pm this past Monday night just hoping to leave a message to get my annual checkup scheduled on the AC unit and the guy answered and said he was in the area and came to my house at 7:30 that night. He installs Goodman and Trane.

Would definitely recommend Elite. I’ve been in the industry 30+ years and I’ve known the owner for 20 of those years. He’s a stand up, ethical, responsive and all around great guy. Best of luck!

We put in a 3 ton 24 seer Carrier Infinity heat pump last summer, with a propane backup furnace. It cost more than any dollar amount I have seen in this thread so far, but it provided heat down to about 15 degrees before the system would switch entirely over to propane.

We had trouble even getting quotes back from people. Had 4 people stop out, but only 1 actually gave us a quote. The other 3 ghosted us . Hopefully that has stopped.

Who did you have install yours? I live near Council Bluffs and am looking for someone reputable.
Donovan Brothers. If you get it done in early spring you can usually get some sort of rebate. Not sure if that is still going on or not.
