Nobody gets this reference but I do. Well done.
I’m in northeast Iowa, and I’ve been aware of West O for a long time. Now, I have friends in Okoboji and go there about once a year, so I guess I’m just around it more, but I’m pretty surprised how many people I’ve seen who didn’t know of it prior to this.
I see the West O bus is parked in the haunted forest already. Great group of folks when we were there last year. They had two huge coolers with a variety of brews. Hope they bring more this year.
Yeah I was confused when you had said that, cause my understanding was the process is like how Cycsk described. I know all the alcohol in Iowa has to go through the state distributors so it would be strange if breweries could pick/choose who gets what (& no idea why they would deny certain stores anyway). I know stores order liquor, assumed it was the same for beer.
If this is true then I just have one thing to say to whoever did this…Which one of you bought 36 six packs from the Grimes Hy-Vee last night?

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let the Ames Lager go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will drink your beer.
Regardless if you tried it or not, give it a rating! This really helps the breweries especially if it would raise their overall rating.

Just picked up 4 sixers at the west Ames hyvee. They are telling people to limit it to 4 at this time. Right at 8am there were already multiple people behind me picking some up. I love how this has spread like wildfire!

Stopped at the Pleasant Hill Hy-Vee on the way home last night around 4:30. There was both Ames Lager and Clone Fest in the cooler. There was also a bunch of Clone Fest by the registers at a display.

From what I recall back in my days working at Dahl's, that's JUST liquor that has to go through the state. They've got a huge warehouse up in Ankeny (I had to go there once for special pickup of stuff we were of). Beer is handled by 2 main distribution companies, and some breweries (like Confluence) distribute themselves. I know Confluence also does distribution for other breweries (it was mentioned on their birthday cake stout cans last year at their 10th Birthday party). I'm not sure how wine is handled, but I think it's the same as beer.
Iowa State fans have to be rationed on beer purchases Friday morning, at 9 AM, a week before football season.... I LOVE THIS FANBASE!!
Off topic but West O's Raspberry Shandy is also worth a try if you find it anywhere. Not usually a shandy fan but I tried it earlier this summer and I instantly wanted more.
I didn't listen to the podcast but supposedly, KXNO did a blind taste test between Ames Lager and Swarm Swill and the good guys won hands down. If anyone has a time window to catch that part I'd appreciate it.

Wait a sec. Did you put Yeungling and PBR in the same sentence??? Hahaha, yeah, I prefer Yeungling obviously. I don't think Ames Lager is exactly like either, just has a stronger flavor like those two do (I understand their flavors are not the same).. They're both pretty distinguishable...
