Thought this would make an interesting poll. I realize prevailing opinion on this board is in favor of the Big East alignment for ISU, however I think the MWC might be a decent alternative as well.

Here are some pertinent facts about the conference schools and their proximity to Ames, IA. I am still hoping that the Big 12 can stay together even without NU and CU, but both of these conferences might be a better competitive fit for ISU providing KU, KSU, and Mizzou come along.

*Please note, this covers football schools only.

Or bring together the Big East, MWC and the remnents of the Big XII for a true superconference. Along the way we can pick up a couple more conferences to get around some of the NCAA rules meant for 'conferences of 40 members or less'.

Big East. I'd be far more excited about playing Louisville, Cincinnati, West Virginia, and USF than playing Wyoming, New Mexico, SDSU, and Air Force.

Also, Big East opens up some very nice recruiting grounds.

I think everyone's down with that...we'd also need a sub for Nebraska if we are to believe everything on that front. BYU is my top pick. Then maybe Cincinnati if we need 2 teams.

Why raid MWC schools when the ACC will be ripe for the picking after the SEC is done with them?

MWC. Closer geographically.

Not nearly as close as you think

Ames-San Diego: 1783 miles
Ames-Las Vegas: 1453 miles
Ames-Salt Lake: 1102 miles

Ames-Tampa: 1391 miles
Ames-Storrs: 1203 miles
Ames-Syracuse: 1020 miles
Ames-Piscataway, NJ: 881 miles

Big East schools by a rule are MUCH CLOSER to ISU

I voted for the BigEast because I believe they have more power than the MWC does at this point.

The BigEast is already a BCS conference and its easier to maintain that than to be added.
While the MWC has their own network, it is not very strong. The BigEast has ties with ESPN and CBS for TV. If expanded, I think the BE could improve the TV deal for all involved.
The BE has a LOT of influential alumni, especially from Georgetown. There are a lot more people interested in seeing the BE prosper and remain viable in the sporting world than MWC alumni.
A strong BE is good for Notre Dame, and what's good for ND is usually what ends up happening. (Weird isn't it?)
I think most of the BE has more history and national releveance than most of the MWC outside of TCU, BYU and Utah.

Big East ends up being just as close geographically if the Big 12 "misfits" are all going together. That keeps our good regional feel that we've had.
