I’m honestly surprised that many fans actually travel for these. Even for just two people a “weekend” trip would over 1k per person. And you’re going to Memphis, not a bucket list spot for most people.
Not that expensive.

Yep... beating KSU and finishing ahead of them in the standings did absolutely NOTHING for us. And we travel just as good or likely better than KSU too.

I worry that JP actually lobbied for us to go to Memphis.
Travel better.

To everyone saying “don’t lose to Ohio and you’ll get a better bowl.”
No, the Big 12 just has ****** bowl partnerships. Hopefully with the PAC12 dead, we’ll pick up some of theirs.

Btw, here is 7-5 Wisconsin. 0 ranked wins & a weaker strength of record than us.

UCF and West Virginia got P5 opponents.

Liberty Bowl is actually a good Bowl for Iowa State. Drivable. Gas is not real expensive. On a Friday at a great time. Sounds like everything associated is affordable. And it sounds like there are enough activities and venues along Beale Street to allow fans to really make their presence felt. Memphis playing is actually going to energize the Stadium for a great TV image. Embrace the destination. Affordable fun Bowl Game that is drivable on a very desirable date. This great for the Iowa State brand.

Another advantage of this bowl is it can be a last-minute road trip contingent on the shorter-term weather forecast and still be very affordable. No way I can talk my wife and kids into driving 9 hours to be cold or wet for 3 hours.

Listening to CW and Blum's Sunday pod.....I think the fan base is tired of playing in this bowl and getting snubbed for opponents every time.

We have played Tulsa and now Memphis twice. Yes, I would rather play a Kentucky or an Auburn or Texas A&M.

Plus I was at the Liberty Bowl in 2017 and while the win was fun, we have been so unlucky with weather down there and Liberty Bowl Stadium is a dump.

Don't come for me, I'm a friendly Memphian, and we are excited to see y'all again. I see lots of y'all are disappointed and I hate to see that. We loved hosting y'all 6 years ago, even though the outcome of the game went in your direction.

I said it then, and I'll say it again. Ask me any questions about Memphis you may have. I'll gladly help however I can.
I don't think people are upset with the bowl, just don't like the idea of playing a team in their home stadium for a bowl game again.
